Kinda Embarrassed Today In A Restaurant Using My 9810...
First of all, I used a LivingSocial.com voucher and although this embarrasses some (using a coupon), I'm fine with it - yes the economy has been tough on me also.

So here's the kind of embarrassing part. I asked the waitress ahead of time if I could simply show her the voucher on my mobile phone since I forgot to print it out and she said, "Oh yeah, that's fine...people do it all the time." Well, when it came time to pay, I brought up the voucher on my 9810 and showed it to her. She took my phone and but then she gave it back to me and said, "I don't see a link that I need to click on to show you've used the voucher, like I see on the iPhone." (I didn’t have the courage to tell her, “no you’re just looking at a pdf and my BlackBerry doesn’t do that simple little task you’re talking about” so I played dumb.) But then she was trying to pinch and zoom and move to the top of the screen and she couldn’t at first but then it started doing it BUT REALLY SLOOOOW. Yep, my beloved 9810 was pouting and decided it wanted to show the waitress up by acting slow and sluggish. Do you blame it? She just insulted my 9810 with her condescending iPhone remark-lol. So I tried it and sure enough it wasn't working right for me either.

At this point, I'm thinking to myself, this waitress probably feels I'm cheap for using coupons and too cheap to afford an iPhone.
I seriously wanted to just hide under the table.
I like my 9810 but I won't even begin to vent about my frustrations with the lack of brand support for simple things like this. Everyone caters to the iPhone and Android phones. And to add insult to injury, it was just slow and buggy when trying to do something as simple as scroll to the top of the PDF. Arrrrrg! I mean, most don't really know what a BlackBerry is all about and today I feel it soured her towards the brand.
I still like my 9810 but sometimes I feel like I'm getting to the point of "If ya can't beat 'em (and RIM is definitely not beating anyone but themselves nowadays)...then join 'em."
It's just that I feel a lot more organized with a BlackBerry, I really do. That's what is important to me. But it wouldn't hurt if they just had better support, that's all.
P.S. I forgot to mention, earlier in June my 9810 bricked A G A I N. Yes, another jvm error, white screen of death. I'm just getting tired of this. Are we becoming like the Windows Phone crowd? So loyal to the point of being blind? Oh, I was once a Windows Phone customer too.

I hear you has happened to me when I use the cineplex app for tickets, but you are about to get burned by the flames...
Lets go BB10 It's time to nut up or shut up!

I can't imagine why you would be embarrassed using a groupon or living social buy. Some of the wealthiest people I know are still smart about saving money where possible. Nothing wrong with being smart with your money for which you worked hard.
As for the phone experience. Yes, of course companies are going to prioritize support for iOS and Android. That's what the market dictates right now. That doesn't mean there isn't value in using alternative OSes if they have features you want. - 07-01-2012, 10:25 PM #4
Nah... No need to feel ashamed. You don't need to justify your device choice to anyone.
I use coupons without shame. As you said... it is a tough economy.

The waitress said, "I don't see a link that I need to click on ... like I see on the iPhone"? Okay.

^ I agree, the waitress is the one who should be embarrassed.
Don't give a second thought to what a stranger thinks of your BlackBerry or your coupons.

I was once a Windows Phone customer as well, but my Torch hasn't been giving me the problems yours did. Sometimes lags like you describe occur because your OS version has issues that have been resolved by a later version and you need to upgrade your phone. sometimes lags are a result of operator error (leaving apps running in the background) or due to one of the social apps updating just when you are trying to do something...had that happen with BlackBerry Protect updating because I had set the update time wrong. As a general rule, my Torch doesn't give me lags and issues, and it is great with getting and holding a signal. Sorry you are having problems, but I offer the following with tongue-in-cheek love...
My son is a psychologist and is available to help you with your phone ego. Even though he is an iPhone user, he admits that my Torch is a pretty effective device, and he can help you feel better about your phone and yourself>

What OSversion are you running, and what apps? Your issues sound like something that can be fixed.Torch 9810, 7.1.0.861, Finally own a Z10

Go directly to livingsocial.com on your 9810. A great mobile site comes up and delivers everything you can do from the i-app. The difference is that with your BB you don't need an app for everything, always try the website first. This is a great example of where bb and os7 shines as the default website works in full and no need at all for a cut down app.
If for any reason you are not re-directed the site address is: https://touch.livingsocial.comLast edited by pinkert11; 07-02-2012 at 11:09 AM.

Personally, I hate the iPhone. I'm fed up with people at all the mobile stores trying to push it on me every time I have the slightest problem with my BB. I called in last week because I couldn't download something to my account and I kid you not the lady on the phone blamed it on the BB. OK, so it says the owner of the account has not authorized you to download this item? And you think its my BB? What idiots. She then went on to gloat that she has an iPhone and has never had this problem. First, the problem is not the phone, its the last time we called they completely blocked our downloads instead of logging them and where they are downloaded from. And second, I have an iPod that does all the same crap except for Siri and phone calls...anyways, not dissing anyone who has an iPhone, but I'm about to the point where every time I go into any AT&T store to check my plan or whatnot, I will start out by saying, "Hello, and NO I do not want an iPhone."
Sorry, got a little out of control there, but I'm just fed up. And I'm certainly not jealous, just tired of people pushing their iPhones in my face. - 07-02-2012, 01:18 PM #10
This is not entirely a lack of app problem. This has quite a bit to do with the spread of usless apps put out by many companies. These apps are no more than an advertising platform. The app does a minimal amount of work , like the Living Social iToy app.
If these companies wrote their websites for mobiles better then all this could be done over the web without the need for these useless apps that just take up memory and probably use up a fair amount of network time in downloading "ads that you will find useful." I have NEVER found ANY ad helpful other than to inform me that the advertisers price is too high because they are spending lots of money on advertising. This is more true of TV ads to be sure but I always avoid pushed ads.
When Facebook finally wakes up andgets its new apps out there, they will almost certainly be THE WORST for ads. After all, their IPO said they would do this. - 07-02-2012, 04:32 PM

This forum is great therapy! I think I will take you up on seeing a psychologist too!

I'm on AT&T running OS 7.0.0.583.
Thanks for this! It is very useful and I did find the button that says I've used the voucher. However, I think this is just for my purposes as I think I can undo this and it will still show it's not used. I think the others have something that actually redeems the voucher - but trust me...I'm not worring about it now. I feel a lot better today and here's why...
Last night, after I posted, I figured my phone had been acting a little buggy and slow for about a week or so, so I decided to call BB Tech Support and they tried reloading the OS. It wouldn't work and instead I got the white screen (but not a JVM error) instead it said Reload 507 Error. BB Tech support said to take it in and get it replaced (especially since the JVM error I had last month). So this morning I took it to AT&T's Device Support Center. They took a look at my notes, saw that I came in early June for a similar problem but this time gave me a remanufactured 9810 - no questions asked. I was the only one in there and it all took less than 10 minutes!
I checked to make sure it was running the .583 OS and I was off with an almost brand new 9810. It had all the plastic, protective stickers on all the buttons like a new one out of the box even! So I'm going to be very selective at restoring my data (which luckily I did a full back from the day before) as it seems this was an obvious software issue.
So thanks for the kind words of support and I'm sticking with BlackBerry for now! The articles I read this morning on Bloomberg about RIM overall isn't making feel that great but hey!Devices (Present-Past): Torch 9810, Bold 9700, HTC Fuze (I HATED This Device!), Palm Treo 750, Motorola V620, Sony Ericsson T68i, Nokia 6162 (I think, b/c it had a flip-plate that covered the keyboard) - 07-02-2012, 04:39 PM #12
One way that the main carriers handle cases like yours when exchanges are required is to give you what they call a refurbished phone is to give you a phone that they had previously soled but had been returneed almost immediately as unwanted. This gives you a very nearly phone in exchange for your old one. In truth this is not a bad deal.

I would encourge you to load one of the 7.1 "leaks" or "official" versions, or one of the hybrids that are available. There are some baked in tools that come with 7.1 that makes it a little easier to keep your 9810 running smoothly. There is often improvement in performance and the hybrids attempt to take the best of everything available and put it in one OS version.
Glad you have your problem taken care of. As much as people complain about ATT, I have always found them willing to help. It may take a few calls to get things worked out, but they have always been responsive when I have an issue.
Oh, and my son says that you have no need of his services since it seems you just had a case of temporarius blackberrius insanitus...a condition that strikes but quickly leaves with no lingering negative ego or self-esteem effects.

That's one good thing about AT&T customer service...if you need another phone they will shoot one out to you with no problem, most of the time....The Torch I am currently on is not the same as the first one I got in January. I loaded .342's operating system on to the phone and it was behaving rather badly (ringing at random with no phone calls, disobeying profiles, etc.) So I got back on my laptop and tried to restore to 7.0 with the guy on the phone, him walking me through the process, as if I didn't know it, and I get so far as to start loading the OS, and for no reason, BAM! Blue screen on the laptop, Torch immediately nukes and bricks. I guess the computer saw something wrong with the audit of the software and flipped. Anyways, they sent me another Torch without any problem. Now I'm on .378 and it works awesome.

Well the fact that the torch was acting slow and sluggish is a bit embarrassing... People wonder why there are less and less blackberries out there, now they have a good reason.

Nothing to be embarrassed about. All phones have a hickup from time to time. Try this:

Yes all phones do, but the lag on this one is by far the worst of all BB's I've ever had. And this is coming from a guy who's had a 9700 with 20mb left on a battery pull. As much as I love BB I really hope they fix the lag issues on this model.

I have only had lag issues when my device drops below 50 MB of space left in memory. For me it's been fixed by setting up QuickPull to reboot my device at 4:00 a.m, when I'm usually well asleep... usually. That said, I also tend to be pretty careful with what goes onto my device, and have yet to be presented with the white screen of death as of yet.
That said, comparing to the 9700, my previous phone, well... it must be your experience with your particular phone as my 9700 had more freezing issues than I care to recall, though it was more frequent after receiving the OS 6 update.
