Default Just swapped a bold 9900 for torch 9810 mint condition

Hi, I've just swapped my 9900 for a 9810 but I wanted to find out what network my phone was previously locked to. I've done a battery pull because usually networks here in the uk brand the start up screen with their network logo but one doesn't show up on my 9810. Any ideas?

Might not be from a carrier, If you buy from RIM, it won't have a carrier logo at start up.

That's what I thought too but then if this handset is a sim free handset direct from RIM then shouldn't I have the 7.1 update showing up in my desktop manager?

Not necessarily - you will still need to go to the RIM software update page, look at your carrier to see if there is an update etc. A bit of a pain, I know - but now that O2UK have released 7.1.0.342, you can get it from there.

    Hope that helps

Yes, the OS is not carrier locked so any OS from any carrier will be able to load on your 9810

Did you delete the "vendor" files? If not search this forum (as there are many threads), on how to and where to find the vendor files.

Are the vendor files the file that basically tells the phone what network software to install on the phone because whenever I boot up my torch there isn't a network logo that shows up like on my 9900...

Not sure if this will help, but hold ''ált'' and type e-s-c-r. The phones vendor id will show, telling you what carrier the phone came from. Google or search here for "carrier ID number" and the info you need should show.

Also, if a carrier releases an OS, the vendor files have to be deleted - there's a vendor delete app in the leaked thread. The OS'es titled "leaked" have vendorless vendor files. THOSE you don't have to delete.

Touch the top of the home screen to get the Connection/Options screen...touch Service Status

Here it should show your carrier and the network you're on. You want to be H+ (i.e. On the 4G network)

Why would I want to be on a 4g network when the UK networks currently don't have 4g signals available yet.?

Really! The UK doesn't have 4G networks

All the iPhones, androids, and Windows phones are 3G

The 9810 is not actually a 4G (LTE) phone, but does HSPA+. On most 9810, it will display H+ when on the HSPA+ network. I think the AT&T phones display 4G when on HSPA+,just a bit of marketing sleight of hand.

The help screen of your phone will show the original vendorID of the phone. I think this is the same number used in the vendor.xml file. If your vendor ID is not in the vendor XML file it will not install the OS. Deleting the vendor.xml file bypasses this check. The help screen is accessed by simultaneously pressing the three keys ALT,left shift,H. This is the same screen that MeccaEl mentioned a few posts before.
