Default I need a Dimmer clock

I need a clock that can dim more than the settings right now. Does anyone know of a clock I can download that's dimmer? Or a way I can dim to 1% instead of 10%?

Are you using the "Dim Screen" option in Bedside Mode? I don't know what % it dims to, but it's meant to be pretty dim.

"Bedside Mode" automatically dims the screen, true, but it can still be a little brighter than one would hope, especially if you sleep facing toward the phone. I feel your pain. If there is a way to dim it further, I'd be interested in hearing it as well. Ideally, when sleeping, one would want it just bright enough to be able to make out the time, but not bright enough to really put out any light.

Yah, I'm using that. It's pretty bright though. I was hoping for a clock app that would address my problem. I would pay 1$ for an app like that LOL

I would like an app or feature to dim the clock in bedside mode too. It's really bright!

I wrote a dimmer app for the default Clock app on BBs. You can swipe finger over the Clock screen (in bedside mode or not) to change the brightness. It also remembers the last brightness you have selected.

It is free and already approved on App World.

It is not available on App World yet because it is waiting for me to release it.
(I didn't release it before because I thought the very bright Clock issue was fixed in newer BB OS versions).

I will release it soon and let you know.

The app, MyDimmer, should now be available to download from App World.

Since it is just released, you should search for it on App World.

When installed, you can run it from Menu key. When it is running, you can hit Menu key to see instructions on how to use it and ESC/Back key to exit it.

Hope you guys like the app. If you have any feature requests, just let me know.

BTW, there are 2 ways of having the dimmer running over Clock in bedside mode:

1- Let it run 9 seconds later ("Launch After 9 Seconds"), and in the mean time set the Clock in Bedside Mode,

2- Set the Clock in Bedside mode and then hit BB key and launch it right away.

Also notice that Dim Screen (swiping finger over right side of the screen) always work, while Dim Backlight (swiping finger over left side of the screen) is limited to what BB OS allow the backlight to get dimmed.

There is a bright line along the right edge on my 9810. Also, does it mean the phone will draw less power because the screen is dimmer?

    Good observation.
I couldn't get the BB OS to accept dimming the entire screen. I will try in future with newer BB OS than 7.1.0.422 and if it accepts the full screen dimming, then I will change the app to remove that bright line.

That bright line is invisible when you use the dimmer on the Clock app with black background. As you know this dimmer app is meant for the Clock app.

Also, does it mean the phone will draw less power because the screen is dimmer?
For the Dim Screen function (the one you change by swiping finger up and down on the right side of the screen), no. Your BB still uses the same power.

For the Backlight Dim function (the one you change by swiping finger up and down on the left side of the screen), yes, your BB will use less power but only if the BB OS allow you to dim the backlight (BB OS is using the ambient light to limit how much the backlight can be dimmed/brightened).

Have you installed/updated other 3rd party apps on your BB lately?

Have you change your BB OS?

I am just trying to find out what may have caused the menu item to disapear.

After an upgrade or installation, you need to do a battery pull restart to get MyDimmer to show up again on the menus, and to get it to exit and not run in the background.

A user reported that if MyDimmer was launched and then the phone was rotated to landscape or portrait position, then the dimmer did not cover the screen.

This is fixed in the new version, 1.1, that I just submitted to App World. You should be able to download it from App World within the next 48 hours.

    You're very welcome.

Do you want MyDimmer also keep the backlight on if it dimms BB Traffic, or you already have an app for that?

BB Traffic keeps the screen alive when the phone is plugged in, which I always do when I'm on the road.
