Default How to buy no commitment from AT&T?!

I live outside the USA and am wondering how I can buy the 9810 from AT&T with no commitment? My girlfriend is in Miami and tried to buy 2, one for me and one for her, and the AT&T store said they needed an AT&T number to put in the system to complete the sale, so one of our friends added her to her AT&T account, went back, only to be told they have to take out lines in order to get them no commitment...That makes NO sense to me! It's no commitment...why should it even MATTER if the person has an AT&T phone to use it in? It's being bought outright, wether it's being used on AT&T or not will not affect AT&T one way or another. Why have no commitment if you need a prior commitment in order to get the phone?!

AT&T does require you to have service to purchase the device at no commitment. Doesn't sound right they would want someone to add a line to buy it outright if they already have service. Sounds to me like they don't want to sell it.

its one (or two) less phones that they can sell to new or contract customers. Reps make no money selling non-commitment and especially with newer phones, supply can sometimes be scarce. try having your friend order it online or over the phone at no contract pricing, its usually easier that way.

I just bought one no commitment, they do not need your number, but I offered and they said it is done that way so they can see when you bought it with customer service help. If you are having problems, just have her go up there later and buy another one or buy one online.

ask to speak to a manager next time they can't not sell you a phone, and you definitely don't have to add another line for a no commitment phone.
