Help! Third Torch, No Incoming Calls or SMS!
I really hope someone can offer advice, because I’m all out of ideas, and Bell Mobility technical support has exhausted their short list of options. I am on my third Torch 9810 in 10 days, and although the last two were defective, one issue that constantly persists is I cannot receive incoming calls or SMS in my office. My Torch says it has full reception in my office (and I had no issues with my old BB). I can make outgoing calls and send sms, but about 30 minutes after I leave work everyday my inbox is filled with voicemails and incoming texts.
I was told I had a defective BB, and after the third BB, I am being told I might have a defective SIM Card. Could the SIM Card be causing the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? If I don’t have reception in my office, I can live with that, but it is frustrating when my Torch tells me it has full reception. - 08-29-2011, 11:11 AM #2
When I got my 9810, I used my old sim card to transfer some info. I started dropping calls! I changed to the new sim card and that resolved my issue of dropped calls. So yes, get a new sim card hopefully that would help. Good luck!

SIM card was my first thought when I saw your subject. I assume you've been able to get texts in your office before, so after that many devices it almost has to be the SIM.

If you have switched 3 devices i am almost sure it's your SIM card that should be replaced...

I gotta go with the SIM card suggestion too. I had a similar problem a while back, went to the store, got a new SM and was back on track.

Update: I can receive incoming texts and phone calls as I make an outgoing call. In the top right hand corner I have arrows pointing inward and outward on top of my reception bars only when I make an outgoing call.

And if you take your sim and stick it in your old BB it works? Because it sounds to me like your carrier is have problems with your incoming call routing. Which is why 30 minutes after you leave work all your calls come in (you switch areas, ie drive home from work) and why you can receive a call/message while in a call. Has any of the tech support people mentioned this ? If not call them and have them check it out.

Ya, I'd say it's a problem on that specific tower or area that you're work is located at.
BlackBerry Torch 9810 - 7.1.0.190
BlackBerry PlayBook 32GB - 2.0.0.6149 - 08-31-2011, 12:02 AM #13
I had this same problem with my bold 9000. I changed the simm card .that took care of some problem. Then ATT told me later it was the tower, the tower was not theirs and owned by a private company. ( one I worked for before) I would get my messages 3 days later most of the time. phone calls could be made sometimes, that's only if I did not get dropped. Well, ATT put some new towers up and decided not to lease from the private tower. I was about to drop them .
Anyway some towers are leased from the telco's from private owners of cell towers. The telco's lease space for their equipment. . I take it this new 4g phone is not support on that tower fully. Either your carrier needs have tower updated with the proper relay equipment; or they need to lease the proper equipment from the private owner.
Yeah , I did some jobs for these private cell towers, I can tell you they are cheapskates to say the least. So looks like your carriers might need to lease more space and equipment on the tower. If it's not theirs.
