The only way to stop this that I have found is to open the slider. This will block the screen in portrait mode. So I have developed a habit of opening the slider pretty much all the time I use my phone now except when I watch a video or play a game.

There is an app called Smart Tilt - available on App World - you can globally lock portrait or landscape and you can then manually unlock the global settings for individual apps - it works great and is $.99

I have Quicklaunch that has the feature built in. Honestly, I like it in landscape sometimes... Just hate the on screen keyboard and how it distorts my wallpaper.

I'm currently using Rotation Lock (available in App World) for that matter. It lets you choose in which apps you want the lock enabled.
