Calculator Not Calculating Correctly???
The strangest thing happened today at work and I thought I was pressing the wrong keys but then realized my calculator on my 9810 is not calculating correctly...I think?
Can someone open their calculator, using the screen to press in the following...
50,000 (Fifty Thousand) X 70 (now press the % key - which should equal 35,000).
Now here's the weird part on my phone...press the / or division key and I get "1.75 e9" ??????

On a regular caluclator I get to type in the rest of my formula.
Another thing that is odd is this...
Type 1,000 (one thousand) X 20 (now press the % key - which should equal 200). Now press the / or division key and it gives you 200,000!!!????? What the heck BlackBerry? Or am I doing something wrong - I'm not having this problem on my standard Texas Instruments calculator.
Maybe this is how RIM is doing math to increase their stock price? lol!

Devices (Present-Past): Torch 9810, Bold 9700, HTC Fuze (I HATED This Device!), Palm Treo 750, Motorola V620, Sony Ericsson T68i, Nokia 6162 (I think, b/c it had a flip-plate that covered the keyboard) - 07-28-2012, 09:46 AM #2
I do get the error message on the first and on the second one no matter what you press after you get the percent total. Looks like the calculator will not let you go from the percent total into any other calculation without clearing.

Thanks for checking. I would like to hear from others.
My wife's 9810 (running OS...261) has both of these issues as does my 9810 (running OS...583). - 07-28-2012, 12:01 PM #4______________________________________

I just upgraded my OS to v7.0.0.583 yesterday from the original AT&T OS. I do not get the error's you are getting when I hit the /
Correction.
When I go 50000 x 70 = 350000 % 35000 /, I do not get the error.
When I do it exactly as you did, I do get the error's. The = is the difference for some reason.Last edited by Cap20; 07-28-2012 at 07:58 PM.

The 1.75 e9 is the result of multiplying 50000 x 35000, if you do 50000 + 70% then push any button +, -, * or / it will give you 85000. This is how calculators work with regard to percentages. If you don't want to do it this way, just do 50000 * 0.7 and then continue entering your equation.

Thanks!
True, it works if I don't press the % key on the calculator and use .2 instead of pressing 20%. Or clear the calculator and then go forward.
However, the Texas Instruments at work and my calculator at home both do not have this issue.
I'm kinda interested if the Android or iPhone calculators have this issue? Just curious. - 07-29-2012, 04:16 AM #8
Both versions are correct, there is no error. Sequence of operator keystrokes depends on the input convention used in each device.

Lol! You know I still have a TV, DVD, VCR combo. If the DVD player or VCR didn't do what they should do, like all others do, I wouldn't simply be okay with it because it's core function as a TV worked fine. I also paid a lot more money for my BlackBerry that makes calls. The caluclators I bought were faily cheap so I wouldn't expect them to make calls.
Good point about finding another calculator on app world but this isn't rocket science, heck, it's not even a scientific calculator - lol! We're talking about a plain old calculator with basic functions that one on app world can apparently do but my native calculator can't?
With RIM making huge budget cuts just to survive, I wonder what we can expect with future devices?Last edited by Nickerz_BB; 07-30-2012 at 12:35 PM.

I wonder if others have contacted RIM about the calculator issue. It would be a nice feature update. I'll bet the calc in BB10 will be more full featured like it is on the PlayBook.

There are all kinds of calculators available in AppWorld that may function the way you want better than the one that comes standard on the phone.
