| | Blackberry torch 9810 trackpad
Hi there, I've recently been having problems with my brand new BB torch 9810. I bought it about a week ago, still sealed in its box and hve used it very little since then. My problems ive been having concern the trackpad, it seems to just highlight and hover and scroll through pages all by itself. This is mainly during texting or Facebook messages. It's unbelieveably irritating as I can't do anything if I'm in the middle of writing a message and I go back and delete a letter it starts deleting the wrong part and adding letters onto words I don't need changed. Please help! As I don't know what's wrong with it, I've barely had it that long!! Thanks

check and play with your trackpad settings, try to reload your OS if the problem still exists.
then it could be a faulty trackpad, you can always go for a replacement.
first off check the trackpad settings and so on.

first off check the trackpad settings and so on. | I second that. I also have a brand spanking new 9810. It took me awhile to adjust the settings so I could scroll comfortably with my heavy fingeredness. Go to OPTIONS > TYPING AND LANGUAGE > TRACKPAD SENSITIVITY. Good Luck

| | Blackberry trackpad problems
Hi guys, thanks for your quick response. The very first thing i did when i started having problems was go and play with the settings and yet nothing changed. I'm pretty sure its just scrolling by itself and not deleting words in texts that i need to change. It starts adding letters onto other words and scrolling up and down without my thum,b even being near the trackpad. It so annoying. Also i bought the phone from eBay (from a top rated seller) And unlocked it myself as i didnt want the seller to even break the seal on the box.
Will try and play with the OS. Any other suggestions would be great, but i think it's not simply just settings unfortunately |

Also how do i reload OS system, it's currently running the latest OS 7 version. Does this mean loosing all my data. Do you really think just reloading will help?

Hello Oli_
This is a common problem reported throughout this and BB9800 forums. You may notice the self-scrolling occurs only when the device is in low light areas. Right? Move to bright light and it doesn't happen. Frustrating? You bet! You might try reducing the Touchpad Sensitivity settings (found in Options > Typing and Language > Touchpad Sensitivity)

Oh right, thanks. So this happens to a lot of people using the 9810 too? Have tried searching all over the net, no one has really reported the exact same problems that ive been having... Literally without even touching the pad it just carries on highlighting and deleting words and adding onto words thaty i dont need changed. Will try in the lighter conditions though and see if this still occurs. Any way of fixing this or a software repair rumoured??

Just tried using the phone in a well lit room and the problems still occur! Really annoying because it seems to be a fantastic phone!! Only other thing i can do is try outdoors in sunlight. It was sealed when i bought it though and its barely been out of the box since when it arrived brand new, im so dissappointed and not sure what to do..

Return it for a refund to the seller, or you can repair the trackpad by yourself(it really isn't that hard of a job, but requires a couple specialized T style screwdrivers). This is a known problem on some of the 9800, and seeing as the 9810 is basically the same device, there have been a couple posts about bad trackpads here in the 9810 section also.
Go have a look at a teardown video of the 9800 on youtube(again same device). Ive done it myself a few times on both the 9800 and the 9810 so I know they are identical. Again if your not comfortable with doing this then send it back to the seller, because there is something faulty going on there.
I like this video for the tear down(disassembly) 9800 disassembly video
Also here's a link to a well known supplier for the trackpad. 9800 trackpad with flex cable
They even have a disassembly video right there for you. At $9.99 its a cheap fix and saves you the hassle of returning it. Also I have pulled the 9800 and the 9810 apart, I had an issue with the trackpad on my 9810 also and replaced it with the one from my 9800 so I know this will work for you also.

Return it! Plain and simple. I've had the same issue on multiple 9810s, and THE ONLY way I ever got my wandering trackpad resolved was by getting a new device. When I'd compare the defective one with the new one, the trackpads that wandered seemed to be less responsive in general, and sticking out a little more.
I really recommend exchanging it, because the wandering cursor is the worst. It affects the way you type, it will skip down a line and you'll continue typing, messing it all up. It wanders in web pages, scrolling left or right or down... it skips over menu icons... I really hated that problem.

Hey Oli,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Unfortunately after doing a lil research I haven't found a single clue as to what the problem could be and therefore don't have much to ad. I only see two option as suggested earlier. Return it or replace the trackpad yourself (which is simple enough but if your not comfortable with the idea don't chance it)
