    Default Battery issue

Sorry if this has been asked & answered - I tried to find ths, but couldn't. I was having a real drain problem with my battery, it was lasting less than 24hrs with little to no usage, then I found the fix for that on here - so thanks!

Now, last night when I turned my phone off just before going to bed I had a little more than 1/2 of the battery power left (last night, at that point it had been more than 24hrs since I last charged my battery - Yeah!!). I did not have any apps running in the background (that was what was previously draining it) - I checked before turning it off & I did not have an alarm set for this morning. This morning when I got up I turned on the phone & my battery was completely drained! Why?????

If you haven't already, update to a later OS.

Rapid Battery drain can be caused by apps running in the background (you found that out), by social media or other apps that update frequently (like Facebook and BeWeather), signal strength, by an app that is imcompatible with the OS that you are running and how you have your phone set up...screen brightness...to be specific.

My suggestion is to simply charge your battery nightly. It will not hurt the battery and insure that you have plenty of power for your daily use.

What version of OS are you presently using? There may be an upgrade that may improve your battery life, but it may just be that you will need to charge up nightly.

If you have a 7.1 installed on your phone, use BlackBerry Device Analyzer to check your battery drain tendencies. You will find it at options>Device>advanced system settings>blackberry device analyzer. Select battery tests then select "battery draining too quickly", then hit the start button. Start the test and in a few hours check to see what is causing the drain. You highlight a part of the graph that you are interested in, select and then read the results.

I have been having horrible battery drain. I charge my phone every night and lately my battery have not even been lasting 12 hours whereas before it would last well into the night.
I unplug my phone around 9am and by 5:30 - 6pm my battery level is at 5%. Very little usage other then checking facebook or the weather (but this is no different then last month when the battery was working perfectly). The only things running are the browser, phone, messages, BBM and the home screen.
I am going to give the BlackBerry Device Analyzer a try and see what it tells me.

Yes, definitely check battery analyzer. I put mine on the charger every night regardless of what level it is at. Also, every once in a while do what's called priming the battery. Let your battery drain all the way down to the point where the phone completely dies (if you can) and then do a battery pull and put it on the charger. If you just recently did an upgrade or made any other major changes then its possible the battery just needs to settle in. Another thing I have noticed is that if I let it charge all the way up and leave the charger on for an extra few hours (which is usually achieved by charging overnight) then the battery seems to have some kind of over-shield and lasts longer. Battery problems are the biggest pain in the a** so if nothing changes see about getting another battery (make sure it is a Blackberry brand battery).

I was having battery drain issues after 1.5 years, bought a new battery on e-bay and all good now. I think the charge on these batteries just does't hold after a while. I have the old one as a back up now.

I deleted my RSS/Social Feeds icon and noticed my phone was able 2 run for more than a day with 4G turned on with moderate to excessive use. Prior to that, I had to turn it to 2G in order to make it through the day. Deleting RSS/Social Feeds has helped me gain better battery life and made my device last longer. Everything prior didn't help at all.

I have great battery life. easily lasts through the day with moderate use. I have bluetooth off, low screen brightness (one of the biggest battery drain problems), have my social feeds update every hour, and screen timeout set to 30 seconds. If these types of suggestions don't help, then perhaps a new battery is in order.

PS: The other thing that will drain a battery quickly is a poor signal.

Especially when you are trying to pull large chunks of data, e.g., surfing the internet. Signal is horrible at work (often goes to GSM or SOS mode) and if I do more than just email, I am down to 30% when I get back. Days when I just do email, I am at around 70% when I get home.

I turned on the analyzer and yesterday my battery lasted all day with plenty to spare by the time midnight came around. I did not change anything and my battery should not crap out on me yet. I bought the phone brand new in January. So who knows what was going on.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, but you are missing the underlying issue. My blackberry was turned off! It should not have been updating, there was no alarm set, nothing that should have been using the battery & yet it died overnight, while turned off.....

I was on OS7, but I updated to 7.1 & it hasn't done it again - no idea if it was the update that fixed it, but I think it was, cause the battery is now lasting around 60hrs with moderate usage. I also turned off the notifications on facebook (had been wanting to do that, but didn't know how!). So, I guess it is problem solved, but I don't understand why there was a problem in the first place!?

The answer to why is because...we sometimes forget how complex and amazing the technology is for these smartphones. They are reliable, but every once in a while a glitch will occur with no known reason why.
