Thanks - that's the procedure I always use when downloading a leaked update. Can you post your link for the download? Maybe my download was buggy, if that makes any sense. I'm willing to give it a whirl for the third time.

The link that works is the one posted in "Leaked OS" here in Crackberry. Make sure you get the one for the 9810!

great message, and you included a step I wasn't aware of as a new berry user. I've been until to successfully download 7.1.XXXXXX from Fileserve or run on PC. Once appeared that download complete, yet OS failed to run on PC. Your step that was new to me was "delete previous Blackberry OS from PC, then download new OS and run..".. Thanks!! I'll try that

Thank you newcollector!!! Since it was not an official build yet I just needed to put the vendor file back and it loaded just fine. I knew it was something simple and that did the trick...thanks so much...

Getting back to the hotspot topic:

I've got an unlocked ATT 9810 since September 2011. I'm running OS 7.1.0.258 on the movistar network in El Salvador.
I tried using the hotspot, but when I turn it on, it asks for the APN.

I enter it, so it starts connecting. Then it says that I need to activate a Movile Hotspot plan with my wireless provider.

So I went to movistar and this is what I got in response:

1. No, we can't do that.
2. Even if we did and even if you phone says "4G", the network bandwidth is only 128 Kbps, so your phone won't support any other device surfing the web. No, we're not limiting youy unlimited data plan, it's just that that's our bandwidth for the phones.
3. Yes, we have wi-fi dongles that run on 3.5G speeds, but you have to get a separate 3.5G plan.
4. Even if we did allow you phone to connect as a modem, you don't want to, because your invoice will be above $100. Price is $0.03 per 10Kb.
5. Finally, because you have a phone that was purchased in the US (I'm in El Salvador), we can't do anything, because it has programming that is special to ATT and we can't configure it for our network.
6. And your contract ends in 15 months (so leaving for the competition is a costly option).

So, some of the above may be true, but it also sounds to me that they're confusing a wap connection with the hotspot where the data is "intermingled" with the blackberry plan data".
Some say in this forums that hotspot should connect automatically and that if I am careful enough, the carrier won't notice a gradual increase in data traffic.

But it doesn't. AND I've noticed that there's a pre-saved wi-fi network called "AT&T Wi-Fi" on my list of saved networks and I just can't delete it, while I can delete any other Wi-Fi network that I create.

So, any ideas if I can get rid of the "AT&T programming" on my phone and if this could possibly end my problems?

Thanks in advance!
