9810 Crashes "AppLoader Wizard"
I searched the forums but didn't find my problem.
The environment:
I have the Torch 9810 on OS 7.0.0.439, factory official from T-Mobile. I have Desktop Software 6.0.1.18 (according to Add/Remove Programs) aka 6.0.1 B21 (I think). I'd like to check and make sure, but once my DS crashes I can't get it to relaunch, despite the fact the processes are all there in Task Manager (it's a Win XP machine btw). I have both 7...439 and 9780 6...650 OS's installed on the computer.
The issue:
When I connect the Torch via USB I invariably get an error pop-up that says "application loader wizard has encountered an error and needs to close." And do I want to tell Microsoft about this problem? Sometimes it happens by itself as soon as the device is connected, and the rest of DM will work as normal, I can make device data backups and use Mobile Internet. I mean, I assume the backup files are sound; the program gives me the success message. I haven't verified the integrity of the backups yet.
But the crash dialog is also triggered when I try to go into Device Switch mode so I can back-up my apps. Thing is, when it happens at these times, DM itself becomes unresponsive and I often can't close out of the program. I'll need to shut it down via Task Man. As I said, even when the GUI closes the processes are still running. Processes are: BbDevMgr.exe, Rim.Desktop.AutoUpdate.exe, Rim.Desktop.exe, and RIMBBLaunchAgent.exe .
Also, this never happened when I used my 9780. It's the same DM install. The only change I've made was adding the Torch OS to my PC alongside the Bold OS.Last edited by Moon_Juice; 01-09-2012 at 10:50 AM.

I'm running 6.1.0.35 of Desktop Manager. Get the newest version, uninstall the old one, then install the newer version. It works on XP, Vista & Win7.

Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the Device OS's or can I just leave them installed? It's been so long that I forget.

What I mean is. Since you know YOUR copy is working. Can you please check the file size ("size on disk") of YOUR installer file, and confirm that the file _I_ downloaded is COMPLETE, that the stated file size of the installer YOU have that YOU already know to work, is the same stated file size of the installer _I_ have, so that MINE can be expected to work also.
There have been problems with files downloaded from RIM not finishing. You will get 15MB of a 16MB file for instance. And it will launch and install and then you find out you have a corrupt or unusable program, but cannot correct the problem due to not being able to go back online and download again (and again and again) until you successfully complete a full download of an intact, usable file.Last edited by Moon_Juice; 01-09-2012 at 03:13 PM.

Also I had noticed it took three or four tries to get DM to connect to the phone via Bluetooth.
I took the leap of faith and ran the installer. So far nothing to report. I'm testing it out now. I'll post back with my progress in a little while.

It doesn't matter whether I "need" to, or which connection is better. Connectivity, or lack thereof, relates to my issue. Moreover, it's SUPPOSED to work, and I expect it to. And sometimes my BT connection is all I have, since this fancy POS doesn't want to play nice with DM or DS or BS or whatever this software is calling itself now.
I never had these problems with my 8900 or my 9780, and that includes while using v6.x of the desktop interface.
Mobile internet, for example, simply WORKED. Each time, both methods, and on the first try. Now all of a sudden I have this next-level device and a fancy new network to attach to ("4G"), and I get nothing but agida.

Currently running 6.1.0.35 and have never had a problem with it. Only time I had issues was when I was running a leaked version of DM(app loader.exe always crashed). If your asking for the size of the Dm installer it is 114Mb size on disk.

You're, uh, welcome?
For the moment, I have the current official version of Desktop Manageware installed, and while I no longer get the loader crash error, I am unable to make backups of my 3rd party apps using Switch Devices. DM connects, claims to be reading my data, and prompts me to connect the new phone, but there is no PIN folder created and no app backups anywhere on my PC. Also the time it takes is far quicker than a real read of my installed apps should take.T-Mobile Torch2 9810 12/26/11 7.1.0.284 / Bold 9780 02/21/11 6.0.0.650 / Curve 8900 11/12/09 5.0.0.681 Retired

Couple points....
1) Uninstalling Desktop Whatever
, will in fact uninstall the installed OS on your system. I keep all downloads, so I can go back to one if needed.
2) Loader.exe will change when an OS is installed, so DM isn't usually to blame if loader.exe stops functioning.
3) If you have problems with RIM downloads, and it does happen, use IE instead of any other browser. While I couldn't possibly explain why, for some FF or GC just causes corruptions.
Now, on with the show.
I'd uninstall DM, including all personal files. Make sure and migrate backups to another location than they normally save, just in case they are removed in the process too. Never happened to me, but why take chances. Anything lingering after I'd delete, such as OS folders, when Control Panel shows they aren't installed. Run Ccleaner, and use the registry cleaner. Then reboot, install a new DM from an IE download, pray a little, and see if it works.

I can follow this guide...but of course it only will help if and when I am able to get loader.exe to recognize my 9810. Am I to understand that EVERY installed app that would have made this list goes into this ONE folder ("Packages")? Things are in here from back in my 8900 days, so I imagine if my T2 and the PC ever decide to play nicely those apps will show up here too,. My point of course being...I only need to look at this ONE location, this ONE path...right?
