7.1.258 touch screen issues
What's going on everyone. I updated to 7.1 last night for the first time and I am having some issues. My touch screen works when it feels like. Sometimes it works flawlessly, other times it doesn't work at all and is completely unresponsive. I've done multiple battery pulls now, prob close to ten and I still get this issue. Its very inconsistant when it happens too. I never know when its going to give me issues. I upgraded through DM if that matters.

first try to play with your touchscreen sensitivity and choose the best sensitivity.
if the issue is still there, the best bet is to backup your files and wipe the device.
and re-install the OS again and see if the problem still remains.gee gee baby~ - 02-23-2012, 10:30 AM #3
if u read the threads on new os installs, usually it takes a few days for it to settle in and start working properly. so give it some time, im sure it will straighten itself out

I have been having the same issue. I posted in the os leak/hybrid section but didnt get a response. I also had the same thing with 7.1.0.205. If i put the device back to 7.0.0.583 (latest att official) it works fine. I have been running 7.1.0.258 for almost a week after trying a wipe and the screen is still weird. It will work, then no response. I can tap an icon 5+ times before getting a response, and sometimes that response is an icon or two above where I was actually tapping. I think its the OS, because it works fine on 7.0. WHy, well thats the million dollar question but lets hope the next leak fixes this. My battery life with 258 is awesome.

I had this problem with an earlier version of 7.0 as well. I had to downgrade to fix it then. Tonight I will be wiping and starting again.

I doubt the OS itself is the issue... Otherwise everybody running 258 would be downgrading and I haven't had any problems.
Likely your system is hanging on something else.My website http://papped.webatu.com - 02-24-2012, 04:52 PM #8
Also, even if you are doing a wipe, are you restoring all of your old data after installing the OS?
If so then possibly the wipe isn't helping, since you are just restoring everything anyways...My website http://papped.webatu.com - 02-24-2012, 10:22 PM #9
OR we just learn to live with it. I have experienced some lag with the new OS too, and web browsing shows more checkerboards than ever. Turning radio and wi-fi seems to take longer now too and I've even had one sudden (unwanted) reboot by the phone.
But I just don't want to go through the hassle of downgrading and just hope it'll continue to settle in over time.
Also, battery life rocks with both 7.1 leaks that I have tried, and that was my biggest gripe with 7.0, so 7.1 stays.
AND I love DLNA. And would probably love hotspot if I could get it to work...
To the OP: as already said by others:
1. Give the OS a few days to settle in while using the phone. Unless it becomes completely unusable and hangs for 10 seconds or more each time, keep your cool and continue using it for a while.
2. Otherwise, try the wipe and re-install that was also suggested, and if that doesn't work, then
3. downgrade....

Wow! I just found out that FB app has chat!
7290 -> 8320 -> 8900 (Lost!
) -> 8520 -> 9810 OS7.1.0.694 and would love to have hotspot enabled by my carrier...

There's a big difference from occasional lag and the entire touchscreen only working occasionally...
I wouldn't even keep a phone that had a non functioning touchscreen most of the time

Just reload it again. For me this is the best os update to date. Smooth install works flawlessly

I have tried a wipe with none of my data on the phone and the same issue happens. If i go back to 7.0.0.583, everything works great, just not so good battery life. As of right now I'm getting a 3.45%/hr battery drain which is great.

Are you using any themes? Sometimes the coding in some themes can cause an issue with unresponsiveness, navigation, etc.
If you're not, then yeah, do what the others suggested....wait to settle, or re-install. - 03-03-2012, 07:47 PM #16
Oy, this has been beaten to death around here...
One more time - SOME (not all) AT&T 9810s have touchscreen issues if you have anything but official AT&T releases on them. It's a repeatable, consistent problem and solution.
The only leak that seems to work for those with the issue is 7.0.0.353.
It's not themes, it's not likely reinstalling, it's not likely another app. These particular phones ALWAYS work fine with official AT&T software. I know mine does. I've been a programmer and sysadmin for over 20 years, I think I know my way around software
So yes, I've learned to live with it if I want to run a leak...

Guys, hate to break it to you there is no such thing as "settling" down. The phone is hardware, firmware, and software. The phone doesn't get comfortable and slip into relax mode a few days after you update the software.
One battery pull is all it takes. Hardware does not change regardless of the battery pulls and software loads the first time on being reset. Flash and code is just flash and code. Once loaded, it does its thing. Think of your computer. We install software and it changes the registry. We don't turn on the computer then turn it off, on, off, on then a few days later expect a change in its operating parameters.
Bunk. Just putting it out there so we can be a bit more educated in how electronics works. As one of the posters mentioned reinstall the OS for your best bet. If you are having continual problems make a note of your apps you like, back up your data, reload the OS, restore your data (not apps), download the apps you like. This gives a clean install.Last edited by zipped; 03-04-2012 at 09:18 PM.

I can confirm I am having the touch problem as well with 7.1.258. Most of the time, the touch screen does not work, but sometimes it will work perfectly. The only way I can get it to work properly is if I downgrade back to 7.0.0.439 official release from Mobilicity.
One interesting thing to note. If I plug the phone with USB cable on my PC, the Torch touch screen works 100% with 7.1.258.
The question is, why does the touch screen with 7.1.258 release only work with USB-to-PC connection (and perhaps AC adapter)?Last edited by Rikon; 03-09-2012 at 11:03 AM.
