3G/H+/4G problem
Hi there, im having a problem with my BB Torch 9810 which i recently receive from the USA (i live in El Salvador Central America, so excuse my english wont be the best) i already have a blackberry data plan with my provider (TIGO El SAlvador) but im often losing the internet connection, i will try to explain:
When the phone is connected using h+ is when i surf the web the best possible, but this connection is changing to "EDGE" and "edge" often, when that change happens the navigation gets VERY VERY SLOW. I read than an OS update could fix the prob and i did it, i updated the OS from 7.0.0.261 to 7.1.0.284 and i noticed 4G appears in my screen instead of h+, however the connection problem remains, the phone is still changing from 4G to EDGE and edge frequently, making my web surfing experience pathetic.
One more thing, i cant watch youtube videos over 4G (3G/h+ before the update), i can search for videos in youtube's site with no problem, however, when i try to play any video it just appears "buffering....." and next it shows an error (server not responding or something like that), the only way i have is to use "vuclip" but sometimes i cant find some videos using the vuclip search tool.
I have read lots of phorums with people having this issue but cant find a solution for this problem, i recently called my provider to ask for this issue but they say is not a problem of the blackberry data plan or the signal, they say is a problem present in those phones that were sent from the United States.
It could be true?? there is a way to fix this?? do u know some trick or tip to fix it?? What can i do??
By the way, i was recently trying a friend's BlackBerry 8900 using EDGE and it works pretty nice in internet including youtube videos.
So i think how is possible this 8900 works better than 9810 using internet!!??
Please i need a little of help!! - 04-07-2012, 01:03 PM #2
What US provider is your 9810 branded to? When you boot the device, what do you see on the splash screen?

Your device has the proper 3G frequency bands for your provider. If it had been a T-Mobile device, you would not get 3G.
The splash screen will always show the AT&T logo, regardless of what OS is installed.
Wiping the device before installing an OS is not necessary. It gets wiped anyway when loader.exe is run.
Unfortunately, I really cannot offer any advice on a particular OS for better reception on your provider's network, as I am in the US.
However, the device should be capable of getting 3G on your provider's network, since the frequency bands used by AT&T and TIGO are the same.--Laura Knotek (formerly known as lak611)

Hi there again, thanks for ur replies, i have two new things to add:
first, i did a new test, i used my friend's simcard (the one i mentioned in first messsage, BlackBerry 8900 provider DIGICEL) on my 9810 and for my surprise it works great surfing on internet including watching videos in youtube, so i think isn't a problem in the 9810 phone properly (unless im missing some configuration trick), to this i have to add it was working on an EDGE signal 'cauze DIGICEL just offers EDGE in this country, however it was working pretty nice (can u figure it !??).
second, i called again to provider technical assistance (TIGO) and explain the problem again, now they say there's no 3G or 4G signal in the place im right now (my fathers town, rest of time i live in capital in wich according to them there is a full 3G coverage) so they advice me to set my connection just to 2G (not 3G capable) 'cauze the EDGE should work fine including for youtube, they say maybe those automatic changes from 4G to edge was causing the problem. Truth is, i made the change, i set manual wireless connection to 2G and most of time it remains in EDGE however 8910 sometimes set to 4G itself again!! including having setting just 2G reception!! and of course i still cannot watch utube videos or surf the web decently.
For all this i make me one question, its possible im missing some configuration trick in the 9810 (connection configuration or browser configuration)??? Digicel EDGE works fine including for youtube so why not TIGO's EDGE?? what else can i try??
