I'm leaning towards the 9780. I had a Palm slider back in the day and hated it...sliders are hard to make feel "solid".

I gather than the 9800, while it has a bigger screen, does not have any more pixels. I also gather that the battery life is less on the 9800 than the 9780.

Anyone care to try and convince me to jump the other way?

I feel like the BlackBerry Torch is very solid. I had the iPhone and the Torch is far more solid than the iPhone. The battery life might be less on the Torch, but I find it to be adequate for what I need it for. Very rarely does it ever drop below 50% before I decide to charge it anyway. I always keep a charger at home, in my office, and in the car. The home charger comes with me if I travel. Honestly, battery life is a non-issue. I don't worry about my phone dying every day. It could last two days if I needed it to.

You just need to find what best fits your needs. I'd venture to say the 9780 and the 9800 are comparable devices, except one is a slider and the other isn't, with the 9800 battery being a little less strong than the 9780. I've never owned or used a 9780, so I can't comment accurately on the battery life comparison.

The phones are basically the same in most ways. The battery life on the Torch I can tell you is still really good, some people have gotten as much as 2 1/2 days on one charge so don't worry about that despite which phone you get. Also the Torch's sliding mechanism is pretty solid for me but you'd have to try it for yourself.

Overall, I prefer the Torch personally but you'll be making a good choice no matter which phone you choose. The Bold 9780 is basically a non-sliding, non-touchscreen Torch so you wouldn't be missing out on much you don't care for touchscreens.

The thing is that I DO like touch screens. I had a palm for years and years. It took me a good year to get used to my curve with its "pearl". I've tried DH's flat thingy that replaced the pearl on the 9700. I find it VERY hard to control accurately.

I think that's the major draw of the 9800 for me.

Well after having a Torch for about 3 months now I can say I quite like the touch screen it has. I don't like the touchscreen keyboard but for navigating it's nice and smooth IMO.

I would go with the 9800 if you want a bigger screen i came from an apple 3gs and the battery on the 9800 is great and the touchscreen works good.

I think 9800 would be the better choice as i dont think os6 looks all that on the 9780 and the touch screen adds a little more fun to it but its your choice

I am getting 2 days on charge. I think you will like the Torch very much. It feels much more solid than my Palm Pre does.
