It is already installed. I have QuickLaunch to access it. QuickLaunch is a great app to have.

QuickLaunch is like have a central place to access apps, phone functions and websites from a central place. BB Maps is listed as an app.

I kind of didn't want to dish out the $5 for QL, but to be able to use BB Maps and all the other features is pretty awesome!

No need, there's a launcher app you can install that lets you launch it directly with an icon. It doesn't remove on a reset like the lbs_ribbon does either

From my experience in the past, I always had to reinstall the OS and select BB Maps for it to actually appear.

It is carrier dependant. We block the ribbon file hence no app icon to launch bb maps. The jad above, ql or poynt can be used as an alternative method of launching it.

Relatively minor, but I wish one could update that to have the 6.0 icon for BB Maps instead of the old one.

I was thinking the same thing. version 2 would be nice.

Not if your carrier blocks it, like AT&T does. But the launcher app is just a simple little launcher, and you wouldn't know that it wasn't BB Maps itself if the icon weren't labeled "BB Maps Launcher" instead of just "Maps" (and I guess if it used the OS 6 Maps icon instead of the OS 5 one).

That is a great launcher idea. I know I saved the ribbon download for when I have to reset my device. Thanks PAPPED! I will give this a whirl!

Google maps kinda sucks because the updates are unreliable... It'll work ok for a while and then they break everything.

4.4 didn't even acquire a gps lock and 4.5.1 still freezes for over 10s on launch..

I used Google Maps on my 9700 all the time, then when I switched to the 9800 and Google Maps updated, all I get is freezing and a half working program. BB Maps has at least been reliable on the 9800.

Install blackberry maps using desktop manager/apploader, then go to mobile.blackberry.com and press on "download blackberry maps". It will give you the necessary file for the icon to show up on your homescreen.

I don't recommend doing that... the lbs_ribbon disappears for most after every single reset...

I agree, the ribbon vanishes every time you reboot or pull your battery or icon as some would say! Thus the reason for the wonderful launcher that is posted here!

Thanks for that launcher! As said, the one you get from blackberry.com disappears after a reboot, if you're on AT&T.
