When phone is in slide down mode, it's compeltely unusable until i slide open - HELP!

For the first time today, when i slide my phone shut, it automatically locks and screen goes off meaning that i can't use the phone when it's in slide down mode. THe lock button doesnt doing anything either. i've tried resetting the phone but still doesnt work.
The only way to unlock the phone is by sliding open the phone. Can anyone help?

Using your universal search, type slide and choose option (wrench) and uncheck lock/unlock screen and you'll be all set!

Try fiddling with how far it is closed. I had a 9800 loose use of the touch screen keyboard because of the open/close sensor being off a bit. We brought into a Rogers store and the clerk had the same problem with his phone and as on my phone, the alignment problem is related to using two piece clip on cases. Rogers fixed it even though it was out of warranty.

I think you are having a hardware problem. It's the flex cable that's shot and needs replacing. if you can get a competent technician, you should be good to go. I had the same problem and since i changed the flex, it's been smooth sailing since
