Exclamation Unsolved Blackberry Torch 9800 issue

I've looked through the forums and I've searched other websites and still cannot find anyone that is havin this exact issue.

I plug in my blackberry and the charge light will come on but only for 30 seconds or so. It's not a blinking light, it's solid. Then it will go off after that 30 seconds and at no point can I turn it on. The screen won't even come on. I bought a new battery and it does the same exact thing.

Is it possible my battery is just ruined then I ordered a DOA battery? Any help would be appreciated seeing that I've pretty much exhausted my options.

Thanks in advance

So first off I am going to assume that neither battery is charging, you post isn't specific about that. Just that the led goes out after 30 seconds. Do you have a second cord to try? I am leaning towards there being a problem with the charging port, like possibly a bad connection that after heating up during those first few seconds, loses its connection thus disrupting the charge.

You've already tried another battery and if the second cord doesn't take care of it, then i think you need to look into warranty replacement if still covered. Definitely sounds like a hardware problem.

Thanks for the reply Jag!

Yea, I'm not 100% sure if the battery is charging or not because I don't have anything to put the battery in to see if it has a charge except the Blackberry. The screen isn't showing a battery charging on the screen if that's what you mean. I have tried a second cord and I've tried separate ports on my computer and wall plugs - still the same outcome.

One interesting thing that came up was when I tried to order a new battery I ended up with an aftermarket battery that required the "code breaker" or whatever it was called where you plug in both batteries to a board to copy the codes to trick the phone into thinking it was a official blackberry battery (even though the advertisement said that it was an official F-S1 battery). Now when I put that battery in - the battery showed up on the screen like it was charging with an "X" through it, so I thought "YES! This is going to work!!" But then swiftly remembered that I was unable connect the old battery with the new one because the first battery wasn't working (or so I think that the battery isn't working) so the two batteries never connected and I sent it back for a refund. That's when I bought this new OEM battery and as stated before it's doing the same thing that my old one did.

I think you may be right, it looks like a hardware problem. And I actually got it from a friend at work and it worked for about 2-3 weeks and then it gave out. I have the original box and everything - will they still warranty this? I don't know how to check the warranty status of the phone, I'll probably have to call.

Maybe your charger isn't working?

I have been having the same issue.. ever since updating my BB Torch to the latest update, I have been getting a lot of lag and quick battery drain.. when I plug my phone in to charge, it freezes then it shuts off.. then begins to reboot...

I restored my phone back to how it was before the update, and I still get the same issue.. my BB was working fine up until the update..

It can be a battery problem. But, it can also be charger problem.
Try to use USB cable with your Blackberry see if it's helping.. and also you can go to a mobile phones shop and ask to try another battery, maybe they will have one used to test.

Default 9800 Torch Issue

You do not seem to be the only one having this problem. Mine went down last Thursday with no warning at all.

Texted, set the phone down on my desk. 20 minutes later went to make a call. Nothing, nada, zip. The phone was totally black. No buttons will work. Popped the battery, counted to 15 and put it back in with no effect.

Tried to use my desktop manager software. Does not recognize the device. Tried a brand new BB battery from my carrier. No effect. Pulled the sim card and the media card. Still nothing.

This phone is 16 months old and purchased from my carrier.

Anyone have anything to suggest? This sucks........

Certainly glad I kept my little reliable Curve around!

thanks in advance

Tat
