| | unlocked 9800 on fido wont support 3g?
HI, I finished talking to tech support from rim regarding my 9800 only able to receive 2g from the fido network. They told me that fido doesnt support unlocked phones running on their 3g network, is this true?

If you can get 2G, you should be able to get 3G. Never have I heard a carrier do such a thing.
EDIT: Google'd your problem.
Some guy got an AT&T Torch to work perfectly on the Fido network.

Thanks for the quick replies, rim told me the torch obviously is 3G capable but fido is not fully running 3G, they told me how even a fido customer rep even told him this. I smell bulls****, the phone is originally a telus phone, I heard how they either support hpsa or edge with rogers/fido phones (I am not 100%)

Got this from a BlackBerry Curve listed on their website:
GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
3G (850/1900/2100 MHz)
If your Torch supports any of these, it SHOULD work.
Since your Torch was from another network, it should work seeing as it the 3G networks operates on the same band/frequencies as fido's.
Man, Fido must hate you.
Extra info for ya:
options> device>advanced system settings> host route table> Pressing the menu key and register now
APN:internet.fido.ca
And...turn roaming on. (At all times.)

Lol, I'm thinking they do hate me. I finished talking with fido and they said you have to take the phone to telus, so they can enable 3g. I am wondering why they didn't tell me this earlier?, anyways I appreciate the help, ill keep you posted
Ps. I did the whole apn settings, and my phone is registered with the network

Okay, i went into a telus store and told them about my problem, all they said was fido doesnt support full 3g, although just the other day, i tried my friends 9700 and i was able to get 3g, I wasnt able to use a telus sim on my phone as they all had iphones. I asked rim if maybe it was a antenna problem but they said if that was the case, then your 2g wouldnt be working either. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had this issue with my Torch as well on Fido. I believe it had something to do with their 3G network being on a different frequency?

Their frequency is the same as Rogers. They are essentially the same company. Just a discount brand.
