rim took the same battery from the bold 9000 and stuck it in a better phone (9700) and made it last longer... check all those tests out some different sites did.
battery technologies are changing - maybe at a snails pace relative to other technologies but they def are evolving.
lets wait and see how many hours of non stop music this phone can play before passing judgments...
Despite the relative advances in battery technology putting a (rumoured) 1050mAh battery in this thing surely cannot be a good idea. One of the (many) things I love about my 9700 is the incredible battery life.
This is the one thing I dont like about the device. I am not sure why they are making the battery so small, but I am hopeful they will add a larger battery.

I don't know either. :\
Maybe they're scared about the weight?
People forget, this isnt an official release. Aside from the speculation of a few individuals, therreis nothing that says this is a final form factor. They could very well change that battery, and I'm willing to bet they do.

That's way underpowered if you ask me, I have a 1600 mAh battery, fits with the factory battery door in my Tour...
The battery life when its all said and done will be horrible. Thats what happens when the 12 year old girls of the world demand a touchscreen on what could have been such a great phone.

Touchscreen + small battery = Useless lol

Because people demand a touchscreen BB isn't reason for RIM to produce a crappy touchscreen. Touchscreens phones have been out since 03-04 and haven't been crappy why is it that RIM is gimping on theirs?
OK but we can ALL agree that 1050 mah is LESS than 1500 or even 1380 on the storms, tours, and 8900. That's only 76% of the power (in the case of the 1380) and only 67% of the 1550 in the Bolds. Regardless of screen tech, they can save like 1% battery life, or better radios like on the new bold + the screen being smaller, and using the SAME processor, probably more efficient a year later, is SIGNIFICANTLY less. I want this device to succeed, but I will not be buying it if it has run-down specs or even if it's Bold-level specs and a low battery. I keep my BB for 2 reasons (maybe 3):
1) AWESOME service (always push, most of the time working )
2) AWESOME battery life. I've had the iphone, omnia, iphone 3g (just look at my sig) all in the past few years, and they ALL have horrendous battery life. I can't stand them. I can't get even a HALF day with them! On the other hand, on GPRS/EDGE I get home with 70% on my bold, and about 15% on my Storm (which I just ordered the Seidio 2600 mah battery). Imagine using the storm with 25% less battery power!!! or even 20%! bad for me.
