Took a lot of experimentation, getting to the bottom of the issue. The short answer is, it was beta BBM v6.1.0.37. Now, for the long answer:
I suggest doing a full 3rd party app backup before beginning to resolve the issue, preferably using this method, which works using any version of DM. Next, install the current OS version on your BlackBerry to your PC. You could use any, but it would be easier to not go through an upgrade/downgrade, while fixing the problem. Run DM, use Application Loader, and check off all 3rd party apps for removal. You could use Loader.exe, but I find DM easier for this job, and also due to reasons outlined below. Since the OS will contain an official version of BBM, it should show that it is being downgraded. Run the update. Afterwards, unless you removed it from the OS folder, the initial video will run again, as if you installed a new OS or first started the phone. Chances are the touchpad still won't work. Check the phone to be sure all the 3rd party apps have been removed, and the beta BBM has been replaced with an earlier version, by going to Options->Application List. You'll probably see a few apps in there. The ones that come with the OS, such as Google Talk, but nothing else should be remaining. Do battery pulls (yes, really pull the battery, and leave it out for 30 seconds), allowing it to reboot fully and check the trackpad. Repeat this till the dang thing finally works. For some reason, once the issue starts, it's very persistent.
Now you can add the 3rd party apps back on. Open DM, select Application Loader again, browse to the folder you saved the backup in, and select the alx. Depending on which version of DM you have, you may have to select all the apps to reinstall them. Now you can upgrade to the latest official BBM, or if you still would like beta like me, use this link from your BlackBerry browser, to put 6.1.0.25 on, which works fine.
Chances are, similar to an OS upgrade, your App World list will be screwy now, with some apps listed uninstalled. With your list open, hold alt and press R S T. After a minute or so App World will close itself. Upon reopening it should show things correctly. If any show uninstalled still that actually are installed, you'll need to delete them from your Application List through Options, then install them again via App World.
Now I'm sure many are wondering.........Why not just wipe the phone and start over?
A) I hate wiping as a solution unless absolutely necessary.
B) Being that the phone is on BES, reactivating to it can be a royal PITA, especially over a holiday weekend, when no one is in the office to provide a password.
