| | Torch is a nightmare and money pit
Hey guys, kinda furious with my torch right now. I took it to a repair shop and got the screen fixed. After a while using it today it is falling apart what should I do. Like the slider is sticky, the piece on top of yhe screen is peeling off and the buttons around the trackpad literally slid off, also half the lights died and the end call button doesn't work now. And just now the touchscreen is going crazy and clicking everywhere. What do I do? I just spent hundreds fixing it and it has more problems then went I put it in

Its not the Torch, its a horrible job done my the repair shop. You do have to take the phone apart to replace the screen. They screwed up the phone by improperly putting it back together. It should not fall apart.

Sounds like it wasn't well cared for.

Well this is definitely a ty job done by the repair shop, like what the others have mention above.
You should direct your anger to the repair shop, and well next time, I guess you should like take a look at your phone on the repair shop before you take it back.

First off I will say I am NOT a clutz, and have a lot of experience repairing phones and small electronic devices. This phone simply doesn't handle disassembly well. They did a very poor design from a serviceability standpoint. Digitizer or LCD replacement require absolute, 100% disassembly of the entire phone, with all screws removed and large amounts of very strong adhesive to deal with to release the glass and LCD. Speaking from personal experience working on torches from my wife and brother in law, I have deemed them unserviceable. Even the screws used are so tiny I had about a 50% chance of them stripping out trying to remove them, even with proper screwdrivers. Very, very soft, cheap metal in the screws. On at least two I had to resort to dremeling tiny flats in the head of the screw to allow a slot screwdriver to bite and turn them out. The slider assembly is held together with six of these, and if you don't use loctite to reassemble them, they WILL work loose and cause the phone to break in two (ask how I know). My cousin has returned several torches due to these screws working themselves loose on new phones. Even the keyboard is permanently attached to the housing with plastic heat stakes, making it difficult to impossible to replace on its own. The LCD bezel which takes the most scratching, flaking and abuse of the entire phone, again requires a 100% disassembly including ungluing and removal of the digitizer and LCD to replace.

I can attest to this because I'm a cellphone technician myself, even though I have never had to use a dremel to fashion out a FLAT HEAD surface in any of the T3 screws (those that are on the slide assembly itself) .......
but as many other people have pointed out, it's not the phone's fault, the repair shop just plain and simple did a sh*tty job on the BB 9800 |
