I don't think it will feel much larger to you, based on my experience with both phones (plus Curves and the 9000). Is there a store you could stop by and test the keyboard out to see how it feels? Either AT&T or even something Best Buy.
I recently switched from Bold 9700 to a Torch. Doesn't feel like there is much of a difference - although on the Torch, using your keyboard while the screen is slid open gives it somewhat of a different "feel" and weight distribution when typing if you know what I mean. As far as size...not a big difference
In terms of size there isn't much of a difference. To "me" though the 9700 buttons feel raised as the 9800 feels sunken in. Maybe bc thats how the phones are designed. But def go try it out

The keys on the Torch are more solid than my 9700 was. The 9700 had a slight clackiness that Berries had been known for. The only way to truly know is chug on over to an AT&T store and try it out for yourself. The unique interaction and combinations that the touchcreen, trackpad and QWERTY keyboard make the device interaction such as messaging and web-browsing more enjoyable. The 9700 does not yet have OS 6. The new OS provides more customization potential and more organized and intuitive.
i prefer the 9700/9780 keyboard over the 9800... mainly because its set in a little because of the slider. have to take a lose somewhere to have have touch screen and keyboard. still love the bb
It's bigger than the 9700 keyboard (spacing wise). Not as great as the 9000.. get over it and get the larger "touch"screen and use the method you like best to move around.
