Torch on Bell
Since I seen a post saying Telus didn't have their service books pushed figured I would let any Bell users know that Bell has pushed their books. Everything is working 100% for me.
On another note, the Torch is WICKED.
Though activate online as their phone support sucks. Spent 30m with them today and they couldn't get it to work. Took me 3 minutes online.
Few points on the phone (got it off of Amazon).
- Reception is at 5 bars (3 on my 8330, 3-5 on my buddies 3gs)
- No lag, loose keyboard, tin sound, etc
- Easy to unlock and setup

To unlock I used i Unlock Blackberry - Blackberry Unlock Codes - INSTANTLY unlock any BLACKBERRY Worldwide.
They had wicked support (had issues getting it to work due to an error on my side.) You can buy them off ebay for $1 but most are sent by mail (due to ebays policies) and I didn't feel like waiting.
I paid 599 for it off of Amazon and used US Mail Forwarding, International Shipping | MyUS.com to re-route the package which cost another $55 for shipping and $88 on taxes (so really only an extra $55) so if you can get someone to ship to you as a gift and avoid the taxes or just drive over and pick it up. I had an option for Amazon Prime trial so I had 2 day shipping for free to them and they had it to me in 2 days with DHL so 4 days total.
As for activating use the bell online system and just click change device. Enter the imei number and then it will ask for the SIM serial number and then after that restart the phone and your set

I can also confirm that the Torch works perfectly with BELL and Rogers,
I bought 2 in LA, unlocked them and sent them over to friends in Canada
They used one on Rogers and one on BELL
both networks pushed service books to the phones and work perfectly.
My buddies say they get tonnes of people coming up to them and saying "hey is that the new BB torch?, How'd you get it here? "

Definitely a good option if you want to have a phone that barely anyone has in Canada. - 08-20-2010, 10:01 PM #11

Amazon.com: BlackBerry Torch 9800 Phone (AT&T): Cell Phones &
It says 649 off contract but it will actually come up as 599. - 08-21-2010, 12:59 AM #13
I can second that iunlockblackberry.com works like a charm and within minutes. I remembered seeing their ads on Craigslist and was weary of using the site until one of you guys have tried it. FWIW I used coupon code: CLIST to get a few bucks shaved off for a total of $6.95.
Also I walked into my local Best Buy and bought the phone outright for $499.99 + tax ~ $541.25Last edited by princealyy; 08-21-2010 at 01:01 AM.

Currently the Torch 9800, Bold 9000, and 9700 can be unlocked and used with bell.
All features will work.
We have unlocked many for use on Bell in Canada and all features work.
Check this out for more info (info from bells site)
Will my mobile phone or smartphone work on the Bell network?
Cheers,
James

Sprint, not sure, maybe Telus. AT&T would be like our Robbers, sorry I meant Rogers. Robbers is GSM and overpriced like the others up here. We still get hit .40c/min for domestic long distance and have to pay for caller id, voicemail etc. Canadian cell companies are amongst the greediest in the world. No competition = Canadian telecommunications industry. Highest prices, crappy service, no alternative. I would love if Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, Directv, Dishnetwork were allowed to set up shop here. Just my .02

After some more play not all features are working. Mainly 3rd party apps. Orb, youtube, blackjack
and a few other things don't work on Bell atm. However I'm usually around wifi when I want to use any of that stuff so it works for me!

Found out how to get the 3rd party apps to work if anyone else needs to know.
Goto Options -> Device -> Advance System Settings -> TCP IP
Set the APN to the correct carrier (listed below) and turn off APN Authentication.
Bell: pda.bell.ca
Rogers: internet.com
Telus: sp.telus.comLast edited by SmEdD; 08-23-2010 at 02:31 PM.

Bell APN Settings Wont Work
Hey guys,
I am having mucho trouble. I got the Torch from the States. LOVE IT. Excpet I cant access the 3G at all! I went to the TCP/IP and set APN to pda.bell.ca, and then turned off authentification .... but then what?
What am I missing after that?
Do I have to tell Bell that I am now using a blackberry (its my first).
Thanks

Well, Rogers used to be "Cantel AT&T" and then later "Rogers AT&T" and then finally just "Rogers" after AT&T sold off its shares in Rogers Wireless.
Sprint... I guess that's Telus, since they also have an iDEN network just like Sprint's Nextel.
Of course, unlike the USA, all of our major carriers all have HSPA 3G+ network now. Even most of the new carriers have HSPA, just with T-Mobile's bands instead of AT&T's.Last edited by Jonavin; 08-27-2010 at 01:48 PM.
