how does it compare to a 9700 or a 9000. i watched a few videos to see and i cant really tell. as long as its thinner then a 9000 im happy

Yeah but in one shot it looked about as thick or a bit thicker than a 8900 or 9700 and in another one it looked way thicker. I'm getting it either way.
Ps.... Sure hope it has charging pins cause plugging in is ridiculous for a five six hundred dollar phone.

Hey. Good news-- slightly off topic. There's a site selling 3 accessories/parts for the 9800 (as posted here on CB) and one of the parts is a charging cradle. Let's hope there'll be pins on the unit and it's not one of those bases a-la-storm.
