Hey everyone. I have the 9800 right now and am thinking of updating to the 9810 but it will be expensive because I just got the 9800 a couple of months ago on a 3 year contract. Just don't know if it is an upgrade that is worth doing. Any suggestions?

If your happy with your current phone then nope! If you are disgusted with your phone then I would sell your current one on amazon first. Make some $$$$ and then buy out right.

It's definitely an upgrade, but like the previous poster mentioned, if you're happy with it, why not stay with it.

My issue is which of the BBs I want to upgrade to. I loved my 9800 and think the 9810 is awesome, but the 9900 is what I always wanted from the 9000 that I loved so much.

Whether it is worth it is up to you. OS7 is enough for me to upgrade to it, but the 1.2 Ghz proc and increased specs are also good reasons why.

There is a lot of improvement going from the 9800 to the 9810. The 9810 multi tasks much better, not to mention the UI is much more fluid and the whole phone is less prone to lagging. The browser is also better on the 9810. Overall, the 9800 is trash next to the 9810 in terms of performance, to me

Its an upgrade worth doing if you are tired of lockups, slow boot times, UI getting laggy after a couple of days and you want a better browsing experience. If you are a speedy user, one that does everything in the phone fast and at the same time, opening, closing, installing, chatting, browsing, then there is a high chance you will like the 9810. Upgrade if you require more, if you do everything fine with the 9800, then you probably wont find it worthy.

I'd upgrade for the better performance, the OpenGL support and the HD camera, but I'd wait for better application development. I'm happy with my 9800 until that.

I, personally, would not upgrade to the 9810. I don't have any lag issues with my 9800 and have been very happy with it. The only thing I want is the regular BB form factor. My slider doesn't have any problems, I just don't care for always sliding it up and down to type. So, if/when the 9900 comes to AT&T, I'll be switching to that device.

I upgraded, but that was new toy excitement, not practical requirement.

My Torch 9800 is a fine device. It does almost everything I ask of it.... but it's web browser was inadequate to the point that I'd always pull out my PlayBook for the most basic "look up a store address" type of surfing that SHOULD have been no problem for the 9800 browser, but my impression was that it would be too much trouble and take to long on the 9800 so out came the PlayBook for faster access.

Now, the recent BlackBerry Bridge update now available for the PlayBook gives full Browser (not Bridge Browser) on the Playbook WITHOUT having to first enable the PlayBook's "Tethering"... hugely convenient. But that's an improvement to the Blackberry Bridge software ON THE PLAYBOOK, NOT an upgrade to Bridge on OS7 over that of OS6... so it's not a benefit you get by upgrading from the 9800 to the 9810. So, if you're a contented PlayBook user, you can be more contented with the PlayBook OS upgrade paired with your 9800 with a PlayBook / 9800 Bridge app upgrade. That's an argument AGAINST upgrading to the 9810.

But now that the 9810 has a capable web browser, I don't have to haul out the PlayBook for basic fast Web surfing any more. The performance and screen resolution makes the 9810 a winner. So, if you're a 9800 user and not a PlayBook user, the Web browser improvement is worth something, I think... maybe not $300 - $600, but it's useful. I honestly think that the 9810 WILL last me 3 years (whether my "upgrade envy" will out is the question). I won't likely "need" to upgrade to a 'better' device in that time frame (if I don't drop the thing too often or just abuse it). The 9810 does what I need a communication device to do, where the 9800 wasn't quite there.

Worth the $600 I spent on it? Even if I can find a buyer for my 9800 and get maybe $300 for it? So, $300 + selling the 9800 hassle for the 9810 upgrade? Well, not really worth it, in retrospect... but this wasn't solely a logical decision. I'm happy with the 9810, won't be returning it, but, from your perspective, you'd have to unload the 9800 or pass it on to a family member, and bear the $600 unsubsidized price of the 9810. If you can wait a few more months, you might start seeing new 9810s on eBay or kijiji for less than that though... especially after Christmas (people selling unwanted gifts)

If you have to choose between a family vacation and upgrading your Torch, go out and enjoy life with your family and accept the shortcomings of the 9800 until the QNX version comes out a year from now. If you're otherwise going to spend the money on vices, well, stop with the vices and buy a new 9810!

i have the 9800 for more than a year already. Bought it when it first came out ( Aug 12, 2010).
i suggest you sell your 9800 since it's an almost NEW phone anyway.
and as you've mentioned you'll be using that phone whether it's the 9800/9810 for the life of your 3 year contract.
