    Odd question:

Can a Torch connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi only be used for tethering? (with a laptop that has poor/broken WiFi antenna, for instance). I don't have a data plan with my carrier, but generally can access the Internet over WiFi on my unlocked 9810. But when I tried to get a laptop to tether to the Berry and access the Internet over a Blackberry Dial-up Networking connection, my browser displayed a message stating that I needed to get a TMobile data plan.

I thought this was odd because the Berry could access the Internet over WiFi without problem, but when tethering apparently the laptop browser was trying to access the mobile network exclusively.

Any thoughts on how to get the laptop browser (or the Blackberry modem) to look for access over WiFi instead of the mobile network?

Sorry, tethering uses the carrier's data plan because they assume if you have a WiFi signal, you would use your laptop. Maybe you can buy an external WiFi card for your laptop??
