Default Telstra Torch 9800 Terrible Signal

Hi

I have recently been given a used Torch 9800 as a mate upgraded to a bold 9900

I Have noticed that in comparison to my bold 9700 on the same network that the 3g signal is terrible.

I did a side by side test today at home with a 9700, iPhone 4 and the torch, all on Telstra (Australia Hsdpa 850mhz) The bold had 5 bars, the iphone had 4 and the torch fluctuating between 1 bar and sos.

If i enable 2g mode on the torch i do get signal but still very unstable.

If anyone could shed any light it would be much appreciated!

After using the torch for a week, i don't think i could go back to the 9700, having a touchscreen makes things so much easier!

Cheers

Tom.

Default

Update:

I have just discovered the phone has come from the optus network and does not have 850mhz enabled.

Unless anyone can shed some light into entering the lucrative 'engineering mode' and enable 3g band 5 (device currently has 1,2,8 enabled) looks like im going back to the bold!

Regards.
