| | Switched from BB to iPhone Pro/Con
Thanks to those who have answered my questions. My BB (work provided) was eligible for an upgrade, and we had a choice of BB, Android, or iPhone 4s. My main reason for switching was the lack of apps for the BB, and that no major player seems to be developing for it any longer. My hunch is that within the next 2 years, RIM will be relegated to the bottom tier (like Palm), if it survives at all. Anyway, my biggest fear of switching was the lack of a physical keyboard. I had been practicing using the virtual keyboard on my Torch 9800 in advance of an anticipated possible switchover. I kind of got used to it, but always reverted back to the physical keyboard if I was in a hurry. I was surprised to find that I actually type faster on the iPhone 4s than I ever did on any of my old BBs. If you are considering switching, don't let the lack of a physical keyboard scare you off.
There are still some features of the BB I miss. The flashing LED to alert for messages and phone calls (iPhone can do that, but not nearly as well or as useful), full push email (saves battery power), and more customization of how email is displayed, ease of attachments directly from the email app (in the iPhone, you can only attach from the app you want to send from). None of these are dealbreakers for me. BTW, the camera on the iPhone 4s is amazing.
For consumer use, I'd give the iPhone a 10 and the BB Torch 9800 a 6. For business use, I'd give the BB a 10 and the iPhone an 8. So, the iPhone wins out slightly, which I believe you will find is what most reviewers and other users report.
See you on the iPhone 4s forum and TiPb.

Yeah, you can probably "type" faster but you also generate more typos/incorrect word substitutions. In my opinion, this gives the iPhone a score of ZERO for business use. It's very unprofessional to be sending out typos/incorrect word subs in a business email.
Your review is just your opinion. Many people have gone from iPhone to BlackBerry and don't look back. For a communication device, you cannot beat the BlackBerry no matter how hard you try. Fart apps though, the iPhone wins every time.

This thread is very subjective. And it isn't really a pro/con list.
For instance, I can type faster on my bold 9900 than my iPhone 3GS. But that is my opinion. You have the opposite results.
Also this needs to be moved to the General forum. As it isn't specific to the Torch 9800...
Have fun with the new phone OP. Unfortunately I won't be "See you on the iPhone 4s forum and TiPb." |

Data usage is another point to consider. Your usage with the iPhone is gonna go through the roof compaired to what you were used to using on your Tourch. Only RIM compresses its data. I think its like one third of the data usage on iPhone and Android. So get ready for a surprise on your bill.

Geez, some of you are very sensitive. I wasn't starting an argument about which is better, just my experience. Anyway...
I make less typos on the iPhone, as the autocorrect on the iPhone works better for me than it did on the BB, and the keyboard works differently - I make lass incorrect taps on the iPhone than on the Torch 9800. My data plan is unlimited, so that is not an issue for me. My usage so far hasn't been any greater than on the BB, but time will tell. I wouldn't be surprised if it increased, but so far, it hasn't.
Almost everyone at my workplace has switched from the BB to either Android or, mostly, iPhone (all employer supplied, but it's your choice which to get). We're talking scores of people, in I.T., as well as in the general business population. We only have a few BBs left, and we will probably drop support for them by some time in early 2013.
Those of you who wish to stay on BB, my advice is to monitor the situation. RIM laid off many people last year. Their stock has taken a beating from a 52 week high of 69.30 down to 14 and change, and their market share has eroded considerably. Factor in that app development is last of the three platforms if at all. Unless they come up with a breakthrough killer app or hardware, they are not long for this world. My advice is to keep what you have now, but if you are about to upgrade, take a look at what else is available.
Notice that I NEVER said BBs are not good devices. They are- that's not the problem.
Move this thread or not. I started it here because my last BB was a 9800.

You don't have to come to this forum and state that everyone in your company is switching away from BB...is there some reason why you can't just use your new phone and that's it |

What about the Battery Life? How is it? I was considering the iPhone as an upgrade is available soon for me. I was thinking of going to iPhone but friends convinced me to stick with my Torch. I was worried about battery life, so how is it?(:

My take on this subject is some what un bias because I have both a bb 9780 and iPhone 4. Now for apps iPhone wins hands down but out of all the apps 80% are junk and a waste of time. Email and general use the blackberry wins a iPhone can't touch a bb for this use. Also battery life on the iPhone is crap doesn't even last a day most of the time where my bb gives me days. I have been asked a few times if I had to pick one what would it be and tbf the bb would be my choice as it just makes more sense as a everyday choice.

If you want a phone to play games on get a iPhone. If you want a phone that will make your life easier and get things done then the BB is the choice. Its really that simple. Sure the iPhone works good in the business world but the BB works better.

One comment I forgot. The browser on the 2 phones. Now I haven't experienced the browser on a OS7 device but as far as a BB running OS6 and a iPhone with IOS 5 I mean there is no comparison . I would say that if there is one thing I wish was better on the BB that would be it. The browser sucks even using the Opera mini. If the BB 10 devices were not being discussed I would go get a OS7 device but I guess I will have to wait.
