Default Sudden battery drain - since using holster

Hi,

I have a BB Torch 9800 and am currently using 6.0.0.668. Since i have started using a magnetic type RIM hostler (original accessory), i find that my BB battery drains from 30% to 8% in fraction of a second. from 100% to 30% takes about 9-10 hrs and then a sudden drain and it signals a red symbol asking to charge immidiately. is it due to the software version i am using or due to the hostler which i was using earlier. Got the upgrade and hostler on the same date so not sure which is bugging me or is it just the battry gone faulty. the cell is 11 months old.

This is very interesting..... I'm not convinced it's tied to your holster tho as I have always used a holster (I bought a refurb 9800) and so has my husband and my mother (both got brand new 9800s) and I have the problem and they don't. But 8% seems to be the target bottom as myself and others have reported here.

mine stayed at 5% for 1-2 hour(with wifi/bluetooth and 3g on) yesterday, so I think it could be the meter that is getting defective

I heard someone in some other forum suggest to disable data compression in storage. i have done that. let me see if it works. will report if it corrects the problem.

I've always had compression off and still have the issue.

Noticed another strange thing. Even after compression off, the battery jumps to exact 8% from 30% and stays there for some time, that means no issues with battery life but with the software or the battery meter reading faulty. mine is though a new phone and not a refurb one

Mine goes to 8% and then not too long after that craps out altogether so consider yourself lucky. This is not cool. I am seeing many many reports of this on the Torch now.....

I am now trying the software update...lets see how .706 responds and will be clear if its a software glitch or a hardware issue for the battery meter.

Ok. Will be interested to know your findings. I have upgraded the OS several times to no avail. Even tried starting clean and not installing any 3rd party apps in case one of those was causing it (I have very limited 3rd party apps anyway).

And unfortunately it remains the same 30% to 8% drain in fraction of a second. but remains at 8% for good half an hr if using music or data and more if idle. the only thing is the irritating meter. shows red and keeps blinking.

I've had the same problems for a long time on the 9800. Usually happens after an OS update. Sometimes the battery settles in, sometimes it does not (in which case I flip the OS again...). I've found that re-installing apps OTA sometimes resolves the issue (especially google maps), and using a USB charger to bring the phone to 100% off your PC sometimes helps fix the issue (instead of a "rapid" charger).

But yes, same issue... 30% to 8% for no apparent reason. I have been at 8% or less for a full day, though... so I know something is fishy. The only problem is that the radio turns off at a certain point...

Try to see in the app list what app proces is using the most cpu time.
While on this screen, holster your phone (or just place the magnet on the right place) and unholster. See if you can find out which app is using your cpu the most.
Check the settings of this app, contact the developer or remove this app and see if the problem has solved.

options -> phone -> apps
