Default Red Light Of Death

Have used the phone for about a year with zero problems.

Yesterday phone shuts off out of the blue.

When I plug it in to power, it starts a extremely slow red blink. stays red for 10 seconds, goes off for 20 or so, then shows red again.

Currently updating my old blackberry bold so i can load my back up file from a month ago onto it until I figure out the problem here.

Since I do have a month old backup file, id be fine with wiping the torch but I don't know how since the computer can't even recognize it since it can't turn on.

First, remove the battery from the device for a minute, and put it back in. Attach the charger to your device and leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage). If it doesn't reboot on the first attempt, leave it several more hours. I've had one charge for two days before it came back to life after an extreme battery depletion. Every 3-4 hours, with the device still connected to the charger, you can remove and replace the battery to see if it reboots.

thank you.

I actually read this somewhere else and tried it, but the version I read didn't mention anything about going longer than 3-4 hours so I'm going to attempt that now.

What's strange is when the phone died, it was only at 50%, I charge it nightly. But I will try this none the less before I fold and go buy the android.

how old is your battery? I think that because they are the newest type out, they just quit without warning. if it's old, try a new one, or one from a friends phone.

I'm not sure to be honest but I suspect it is the battery that came with the phone, so over a year I'm guessing?

I have two other blackberries in the house (including my old bold 9000 which i've resurrected and am using until I figure out this problem) but neither of them use the same battery.

I'm thinking if by tmrw it hasn't turned on, I could go to ATT store and just borrow a battery for a second and see if a different one works.

AT&T is a good idea. That way, there might be someone there that knows about 9800s too.

Left plugged in for 48 hrs, no dice.

Went to ATT, guy was clueless.

Instantly said it was dead and tried to upsell me on Galaxy II even tho my upgrade doesn't come thru until March. Said it was worth the extra $300 lol.

Bought another battery for $16 off amazon, it just arrived. Put it in, same blink error, tho maybe the new battery is fully discharged. I'll leave it for another 12 hrs or so then officially give up and accept the fact that I'm gonna have to use my old Bold9k for a month until my upgrade date hits.
