By the time you guys get a "refresh" the 9800 might just only have hit the shores of some countries. Be grateful!

I don't think we will be seeing any 1ghz BB's anytime soon.

Especially given the spec's revealed on CB of the 9780 show it as having the same processor.

If Crucial says we will, chances are we will. We all knew the 9780 was just a refresh to run BlackBerry 6.

The 930 came out in 2008 so is at least two years old which is what I'm guessing the 9800 is running.

It's also 65mm and based around the older ARM9 instruction set unless your suggesting the 9800 has the 935? Which did come out in 2009 and is 45mm so I can only presume thats what you mean?

If so why is the clock speed 624mhz?
Obviously that is what he said if you can read.....

It seems you're having difficulty reading since it's clear I was/am seeking clarification.

To think you wasted your time writing out a insult on your device........

The 9800 is running a PXA930. It's been analyzed by many websites and they all state it's the same processor that's in the 9700, which is a PXA930.

That's what I thought thanks, was just curious as to what CE was talking about, he seems to be a man in the know!

I suspect it was crossed wires!

so why did rim say that the torch was running a "newer generation chip" PXA935? can anyone confirm or just hearsay.

I was under the impression it was a newer model of the 930 but again I could be wrong and am happy for CE to set me straight but I did also hear the same thing.

Although if it was a 935 it would make no sense to use 624mhz clock speed since the reduced speed of the 935 should be higher than the 930.

It will be interesting to find out whats really in there.

Yea its a mystery, pdadb doesn't even have the processor listed for the device. I haven't found anything on marvell updating the 930 chip, now i know where blackberry got there b/g/n wifi technology from.Marvell Brings 802.11n to Handhelds | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

I wish CX would expand on this:

FYI: the 9800 is underclocked also

Well the 930 processor goes from 624 to 800MHz and 935 from 624 to 1 GHz. Maybe this is what he talking about. That any of those are on the lowest operational speed.

Yeah I realise that but it wouldn't make much sense to keep the clock speed so low when bumping it up a bit wouldn't likely cause any problems with heat/power.

Although I'm sure there would be a healthy speed advantage even at the same clock speed over the previous processor but this idea can be offset by the fact the existing devices running the 930 (9700 etc) can apparently run OS6 very well and it's been suggested even faster than the 9800. Now if the 9800 has double the ram + a much faster processor it wouldn't make sense for that too happen even with touch screen code running in the background.

And it would surely be good for sales to be able to boast of a new generation processor and higher clock speed even if made no difference.
