My front buttons are always lit

Hi all. I'm perplexed.
All of a sudden the backlight illuminating the 4 front buttons (green phone, bb menu, back and end call/power) won't turn off.
I've seen several posts of people with similar problems, but what's interesting is mine will stay lit even when the phone is completly powered off (not on stanby or sleeping, but fully shut down). If I remove the battery, the light extinguish, but it becomes lit as soon as I insert the battery.
Any thoughts?

upgrade your OS, if that doesn't solve it then most likely its a hardware problem.
