Physically unlock the device(ie: Password?), or unlock the device so that you may use it on another carrier/network?

I'm fed up with my carrier/network's added limitations/complications to my BB-Torch 9800.
Is there any way to format and re-install original operating system to get rid of carrier/network's customized soft/hard-ware?
