I thought I read that the most recent version of Google Maps would support multi-touch on the Torch?

If you mean things like pinch-zoom, then no, it doesn't work. You can pan around using the touch screen. There are Zoom in and out "buttons" on the screen you can tap but no pinch. Pinch Zoom does work in Blackberry Maps.
