Messages Issue please help!!

I've 9800. Today when I woke up and open messages app to check my texts it won't open and appears (uncaught exception: java.lang.indexOutOfBoundsException)
I tried reboot but no effect I got the same error again n again..

Try to boot in to safe mode, pull the battery, then while placing it back, hold the back arrow through the booting process. See if you can get it to start up that way and check check the text messages, perhaps even clear out the last few. Then try rebooting again regular. See if this fixes the problem.

I have a Torch, unlocked and for a year and a half it has been the greatest phone ever, no problems at all. Then a few evenings ago this exact same problem with the text messages came up. I am having no luck fixing it. I tried the battery pull then reboot in safe mode but get the same error message. The only way to view the text messages is to wait for someone to send me one then open from the messages folder rather than text message folder. I can also view the messages by looking at the activity log for the contacts but this doesn't help when I am dealing with someone who was directed to call me but instead chose to text me. That person is not in my contacts yet so even though I need to conduct business I can't access the messages to get the person's phone number. Long story but I'll keep hoping someone knows how to fix this. If I find anything out I'll post it here.

Fixed it! I received a new text msg and after opening it, deleted all of the old messages. Then closed the folder. No more problems opening the text msg folder after that. I don't know if there is a limit on the number of texts, the size of the folder or if a specific message was the problem but all is back to normal now. I had the suspicion that one of those things might be causing trouble so had someone text me. I knew I could open the folder if I had a new message but once I closed out I got the error message trying to go back in again. I hope this helps anyone else who is having this trouble.
