After all this negativity something positive. I love the Torch. I do not have one of the problems mentioned above. It's rock solid! I love playing with it.
Go read some iphone forums. It is the same as here, when you read the posts you are scared to buy one. They have problems with the camera, antenna, purple screen, speaker phone, battery life and so on.... and still people keep buying them...
So whats the big deal... maybe 500 people here who are having problems but most likely 99.500 people after the first weekend who are more then happy!
My tip... get relaxed people!! - 08-16-2010, 01:35 PM #52
LOL They put stickers on those because they are new returns, and they put that sticker on them meaning that they have checked it, and it's good enough to give to you. Take that thing back man. The other phones not having that sticker on them would have raised the red flag to me bro.

They=Retail Store. Blackberry does NOT put stickers on their phones. Retail stores have their own stickers, and have their own people check these phones, and put those stickers on them. They DON'T check everything and or actually care about quality control. They are not trained well enough.
The last thing Blackberry would do is put a quality control sticker on the phone, because it makes the consumer think they are getting a phone that was returned and then was checked for issues and it passed. AT&T is not this bright.Last edited by BoldBerry9700; 08-16-2010 at 01:49 PM.

Just got back from the AT&T store and tested 2 floor models of the 9800. Both operated pretty smooth, the web browsing is a huge step up for me coming from a 9530. I did not hear any clicking from the screen because of the slide device, but that does not mean it won't happen over time. I did not place any calls with the device, but hopefully the recent leaked OS will solve that tinny issue. All-in-all, I think this is one of the best BlackBerry devices to be released. I just hope I don't have to go through a few phones to get a decent working one though, that would be a bummer.

I guess I just blame myself for being a moron. I knew better, but it was the only one they had that didn't clack. All I was checking was the slider and not the rest of the phone until I used it that night and blam - my button is hald lit and raised up. If I had a choice I would pick the messed up button over the clacking one. T texted the rep that sold it and she told me to come back, but I just feel kinda guilty returning a phone that works good for that.
True I would not take a new car with a dent, but in 1.5 years I won't want this phone anymore. - 08-16-2010, 02:22 PM #57
I wish cars had a 30 day return, if they did I wouldn't be driving the one I am now!

This seems to be the resident anal compulsive thread, lol. So here we go:
I went back to the AT&T store for a third phone last night (the first had horrific battery drain, and the second had a pronounced wobble/wiggle).
I asked the rep to let me check out the wiggle/wobble on the new phone, and still noticed a slight wobble, although less than the one I was returning. I asked him to humor me and bring out another new one, which he did, and its wobble was as bad as the one I was returning, so I opted for the first new one he brought out. (I couldn't bring myself to ask him to keep bringing new Torches out, although he was a laid back enough guy that he would have.)
Now I note a couple of things about this third phone -- the bottom of the screen is not perfectly level with the call button/trackpad row. There's a little gap, in fact. Also, the trackpad button frequently makes a squishy/squeaky kind of sound, kind of like squeaky shoes.
I'm not sure if these things are enough to bring it back and get yet a fourth one, particularly since I feel like I'm playing Russian roulette with the possibility of another bad battery life device (something you obviously can't test for in store).
At least I still have another 25 days to do so.

So does AT&T have a policy to tell us no more exchanges? I mean I really want this phone. I am addicted to using a combo of the keypad and touch screen now. The one I have now also has those call/end buttons raised higher than the screen, but the sides of the phone are higher than the screen. Who cares, if that is the design, then so be it but I see more people having those taped on buttons peeling. Mine did in 3 hours.

On the call/end one button piece, is anyone else getting any soft sounds when you click it? The best way I can describe it is it kinda sounds like the adhesive isn't doing its job when the button comes back up on a press. Its a little bothersome since it doesn't feel or sound solid at all, unlike the keyboard below it.

I still have wobble/clack/play. Maybe not as bad as the 2nd phone I had, but it's still there, noticeable when I use the trackpad and BB key.
I'm not OCD, but I have to believe there are a lot of people who have a Torch with same kind of play and resulting clack (something you can feel more than hear) and they've either just accepted it or don't really notice it.

I'm amazed there has been to official word on this wiggle/wobble. It only happens to me with the phone slider closed, and I press the bottom bottons. There is a "give" when i push those buttons. When the slider is open those buttons are rock solid. I hate to get pulled into this, but i just want to know if this is normal. I knew I should not have started reading these threads.......I am now consumed.

O....M.....G.....I *think* I finally felt that "wiggle" that some people are posting about. I was holding my phone in my left hand, closed, talking on it and I felt the the slightest give....is that what is being described as the "wiggle"?
I don't think I would have even registered that if I hadn't read about it here. - 08-19-2010, 11:49 AM #69AT&T BlackBerry Curve 8320

More of a wobble than a "wiggle," like a table wobbles. If you have wobble, the slider screen of your phone will:
- Move slightly up and down, sometimes with a clacking sound, when you press on either the left or right side of the call row buttons with the slider open, particularly the very bottom left or right corner;
- Wobble/wiggle when you pinch the top of the open slider screen between your thumb and forefinger and "play" as if you were playing a guitar in RockBand;
- Rattle and wobble if you hold just the keyboard section in your hand with the slider open and shake up and down;
- Create a very hollow, unsturdy, and cheap sound and feel when the slider is closed and you tap on the call row buttons or the bottom of the touch screen; and/or
- All of the above.
Known solutions:
- Take it back and insist on trying out phones until you find one that doesn't wobble;
- Fold a post-it in half and then fold it half again and stick it under the slider;
- Press down on the side of the screen with the most wobble with your non-operative thumb while working the call buttons and trackpad with your BB thumb.

When I buy something new, I expect it to be in perfect condition. If I want to buy something with known minor flaws or defects, I would expect I'm buying a used or minor flawed item at a reduced rate.

OK, Doc - my wobble/wiggle/giggle is almost imperceptible. I think I felt it, I'm not sure....in any case, it's so miniscule that it's not even a consideration for me.
