Default incoming email disappears after a few hours whether they have been read or not.

My in-coming email messages keep disappearing after a few hours whether opened or not on my Torch 9800. I have my settings set to keep "forever" and I have not opened these messages from another computer. My setting for mailbox reconciliation conflicts is set to "mailbox wins." I seem to have adequate memory (26 mB). All of my out-going messages remain on my BB. Just my in-coming messages seem to be affected. In-coming messages remain accessible on my PC.

I have reviewed previous threads on this issue, but have not been able to resolve the issue with previous suggestions. Would appreciate any help.

Yes, my email is accessed through outlook on my PC. Not sure what the connection is, though. I will try changing setting to "handset wins." Thanks for your quick input. Hope it works.

ok, so i dont have outlook on my pc so i`ll try do this from memory, but im sure you`ll know where i mean.

open outlook and in options and email setting/setup (the bit where ya entered all ya details in the first place) clik that.
then you should see an `advanced options` tab, click that and in there ya should see a checkbox marked `leave copy on server`.
check that box, save and exit.

as i say thats roughly it, its in where you input your email, pop3/imap settings and such when you setup outlook.

basically what happens is outlook by default downloads the email from your email server. by downloading it it removes it from the server. your BB which is constantly checking with your server notices that its gone, so mirrors that on your device, and hey presto its gone from the device.

leaving a copy on the server by using that checkbox will stop that situation from occuring.

the handset/mailbox wins situation goes as follows:
mailbox wins - mailbox server is default config, so anything removed from mailbox will be echoed on device.
handset wins - whats arrives on your handset stays on your handset until you delete it.

edit: if this is also your first BB device, go into messages and hit the menu key and select options> message display and actions.
now scroll to the bottom of the screen and you`ll see a drop down box labelled `days to keep messages` this is 30 days at default. tap on it and change it if you wish, as basically it does what it says on the tin and if it hits 30 days it will remove from your device. personally i set mine to forever then just delete emails as i need to, but choose what ya want on there for your circumstances

In Messages, select Options. In Message Display and Actions, at the bottom, make sure Auto More, Confirm Delete, and Confirm Mark Prior Opened are checked. In Days to Keep Messages, select 15. Do you have Hide Filed Messages checked?

In Email Reconciliation, for Delete On, select Prompt. Make sure Wireless Reconcile is checked. On Conflicts, Mailbox Wins should be selected.

If you are BIS and use Outlook, in Options, make sure to select something to the effect, leave duplicates on server.

Thank you BBThemes. I made the changes to my email accounts to save messages on the server and have selected "Handset Wins" for Conflicts. I am saving messages "forever." I am beginning to feel very optimistic about resolving this very frustrating issue.

Thanks for your help and logical, understandable explanations to a non-techie.

Thank you jcp007 for your reply and suggestions. I made sure that each of the elements above were checked, I do not have "Hide Filed Messages" checked. I made the changes to my email account in Outlook to save copies of messages on the server. (not sure what "BIS" is)

There seems to be a difference of opinion on whether or not Conflicts should be resolved by "Mailbox Wins" as you suggest or "Handset Wins" as BBThemes recommends. I will try "Handset Wins" first to see how that works.

Thank you both for your help. I am very greatful.

BIS is BlackBerry Internet Soloution, dont worry you have it because thats whats needed for emails and BBM etc, (some carriers call it blackberry services, its all the same thing).

with the wether you should have handset or mailbox wins, thats totally a user preference, hence why i just put down what each means, and what I have, of course set your as you need, an heck if down the line ya want to change it then ya know what your doing so all is good

    Default Similar problem

On my Torch I have set the number of days to keep the messages to 180 and set all the other options as suggested in the previous posts. What happens is that some emails stay for the 180 days while the majority is deleted. Very annoying when I look for something. I have tried to save important messages but the Torch still deletes them. Any ideas? Thanks, Ottmar
