Default How do I get rid of duplicate auto complete address book entries?

I've got a situation where one of our blackberries ends up with multiple "auto complete" address book entries that are identical except they contain different email address's.

So, If I start a new email, type in the name of the person I want to send to, 2 entries pop up both identical, but selecting one gives one email address selecting the other gives another email address. How do I get rid of an auto complete email address?

BTW, The contacts only contains 1 instance of the user with the correct address.

What I was able to do to correct this problem is as follows:

I edit the contact of the user who has 2 "auto complete" entries. I add the bad email address as a 2nd email to that user. I then compose an email and select this user at which time only 1 instance appears for the auto complete. I then go back and remove the 2nd email address from the contact and save. That seems to fix the problem.

I believe this was a bug in earlier OS versions. This particular user is on a very old version (possibly original) of the OS but we haven't found time to update his phone.

Try this to get rid of the auto complete... Go to "Messages" > "Options" > "Message Display and Actions". Scroll down until you see "Show Recent Contacts When Composing Mail", and uncheck that option. Save, exit and give it a test. When you begin to type an email address in the "To" field, the extra auto complete stuff should be gone -- only your Contacts will be searched.

Hope this helps. ~ecm
