    Your carrier: Waridtel Pakistan (prepaid)
Model info and OS version: 9800 Torch ; 6.0 Bundle 2534(v6.0.0.570, Platform 6.6.0.212)

    Hello there,

I recently received BB 9800 Torch as a gift from my uncle.

    It's software unclocked.

It is my first ever BB and I'm going nuts with it.

    I'm located in Karachi, Pakistan.

First of all, when setting up email it only shows Enterprise Activation and no option for personal email account.

Does personal email also gets enabled when someone has BIS?

I do not have BIS for the moment.

Secondly, I cannot use WLM,Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk etc...

Says service is not enabled for this handset.

Next the BB MAPS shows that it is installed on the handset via DM but no icon appears.

After hours of searching, I downloaded a BBMAPS Launcher, which is working ok for the moment.

But I cannot view any maps, is there a way to downlaod maps?

Next I downloaded Google Maps using BB, ver. 4.5.3...

And when I launch it it gives an error which says:

    "network unavailable
    this application requires
    a data connection
    (wifi connected)
and some BB devices require reconfiguration to work
    properly."

    What could be the issue?

For some reason I can use FB for BB without any data plan or anything, FB is updated to 2.0 something.

Can anybody please help a n00b like me with this?

Is there a problem with the handset or will everything work fine once I activate BIS?

I fear that the handset is on BES and not on BIS...

Can it be changed from BES to BIS?

Also whenever in any app I try to check updates, it says cannot check updates.

And since AppWorld isn't available in my country I can't use it.

    Thank you in advance.

    Awaiting Replies.

You need a Blackberry specific data plan from your carrier. Once it's set and you update the service books, things should start working.

You need BIS to use many of the BB specific features and apps.

I tried removing the IT policy using method # 3 described here: KB14202-How to remove an IT policy from a BlackBerry smartphone

But still at email setup it says activate enterprise account.

Get a sufficient BlackBerry data plan. Only then will everything work. At least, I think so.

Hardly any apps will work if you do not have BIS. Email won't even function as it should.
