    If I buy a factory unlocked Torch when they are available in the UK as opposed to one direct from my carrier.
    Will that be any settings I will have to manually set, if so what are they?

    Most likely your connection settings but the blackberry is smart i'm sure it'll do all that on its own

    The only thing you might have to set is the APN. No big deal, rather easy to do.

    You need service books. That's not a big deal. Forgetting to enter the APN is a big deal.
