Now I've read a hundred threads about leaving it in white rice, some say it works, some say it doesn't.. My phone was submerged for maybe two seconds, if that long.. I pulled the battery out within the first five seconds..

So here's for another question regarding the best hopes to get it functional.. Has anyone had success using silica gel (the little packets they put in new electronics packaging)? I opened one up and mixed it in with the rice, and took another one (left it in the little cloth pouch) and put it in where the battery goes..

Now its buried in a white rice/silica gel mixture, with the one in the battery slot..

Given the silica gel is a chemical dissicant, and the white rice is a natural dissicant, How long do you suggest I leave it sitting in there before trying to bring it back to life? It happened around 7pm last night, now its 9:30am.. Should I try it now, or wait a little longer?

Ouch, sorry to hear about that. I would leave it sit for at least 2 days. Not sure if taking the silica out of the pouch was a good idea or not.

Well, I only took one packet out of the pouch because it was a sealed plastic pouch, wasn't sure if it would do anything like that..

I would leave it in there for atleast 3 days just to be on the safe side.

Silica Gel Shatters with contact with too much water so just be aware...

White rice works because it absorbs water.

I did it with my Alienware M11x's Keyboard when I dropped coke on it. (glass bottles suck to open)
Submerged the keyboard then riced for 2 days.

Leave it in the rice mixture for at leasst 48 hours. The important thing to do is to NOT try powering it up until then... If there is still water inside when you try and put the battery back in, you'll only make it worse... Take off the battery door, battery etc... And leave all the pieces in a ziploc bag with rice for at least 48 hours... If your very patient, I would change the rice after 48h and leave it for another 24h, without trying to power it up...

If you're feeling daring, you could try disassembling the phone as best you can and cleaning the bord and components with rubbing alcohol, and then rice for another 24h...

The problem with water damage is not so much the moisture, but mineral deposits left behing by the evaporated water, that can conduct electricity, and short out components (cleaning with alcohol will minimize left over deposits)...

Good luck, let us know how it goes...

Patience is important. The longer you leave it in, the better your chances are of it helping to dry things out.

Sounds like you did everything right. Give it 3 days sealed in with the rice.

Same thing happened to my Flip last year. Two seconds in the bowl, several agonizing seconds to remove the battery. I gave it three days in rice, then several minutes wiping down with 99% alcohol. Been working fine ever since.

Just wait it out. It will eventually dry out (even without the rice and alcohol methods) and everything should be a-ok. Good luck.

The technique depends on one very important factor:

    Pre or post flush?

Well.. My impatience got the best of me and I tried putting the battery back in a few minutes ago.. The LED turns on for about 2 seconds then it starts to load the o/s.. Gets about 1/4 of the way loaded and shuts off.. Had it plugged into the wall charger while I did this and its unresponsive still.. But if I pull the battery out for 5 mins and try it again, it does the same thing.. Loads 1/4 the way and shuts off..

Could my battery be shot? The device is technically working since its starting to load up and shuts off like the battery is dead, and if I plug it into my laptop and put the battery in my laptop recognizes that the phone is plugged in until it shuts back off..

I'm more than sure everything will be okay with the device. It's just a matter of time. It's probably not done drying out. When my dad dropped his bold in his soda, I initially tried to get it up and running. No real luck. Had to give the phone a few weeks. Now it works like nothing ever happened to it.

I would assume it would at least recognize that its being charged though.. Hope it all works out, I put it back in the silica gel/rice for now..

Put it back in the rice for sure...

    My experience:

I was cleaning the toilet when my 9700 fell in (so not only water but the blue cleaner too, yikes!) Like you, I had the battery out and phone in rice ASAP...left it for 2 days, then couldn't stand it and took it out to turn it on...it reacted similarly to yours, so battery was out again, and back in the rice for another 24 hours, after which the phone functioned fine, but there was water under the screen...long story short, the phone was in rice for a total of 4-5 days, and in the end it looked and functioned as if brand new, no harm done...though it was a 9700 and not a touch screen, so I will be interested to see how yours turns out!

Also, anyone using rice, may I recommend one of those aerosol cans of compressed air you can buy for cleaning keyboards? It really helped get all the rice dust out of the nooks and crannies

**** with the touch screen.. I don't use it anyway.. As long as I can see what I'm doing I'll be happy lol.. But its back in the rice now, hoping it'll come out of its funk.. I'll try some compressed air in the morning to get the rice out..

    That says it all lol
That was me too, 48-hour trip to the rice and it was back up and running. Touch-screen still works and everything. So yours could still be OK. If not, get looking for Water Damage Restoration Specialists.

And that was probably a BIG mistake. If there was any chance of it being all right there probably isn't now.

Good luck and hope I am wrong.

This happened to my torch. dropped in the toilet and I watched it sitting in the bottom of the bowl for a good second or two before I pulled it out. Immediately popped out the battery and stuck it in a bowl of rice. Left it in there for three days and now it's working like nothing ever happened. Even the water damage stickers are still white.

    Good luck with yours.

I like how you came here to ask for help/suggestions, and simply ignored everybody who suggested anything to you. "Wait 24-72 hours" and "DO NOT TRY TO POWER ON THE DEVICE" apparently wasn't good advice? Hopefully you're not wondering why the device is having issues. Maybe you're not 100% clear on how water damage happens inside the device.

I'm glad your phone came on, and hopefully your network issues work themselves out. I wouldn't be surprised if you completely borked it by being impatient though. That could have been a few hundred dollar mistake.
