    Hello,
I am wondering if my brother sends me an unlocked 9800 from the US can I activate it on Telus in Alberta? I just spent an hour on the phone with telus and they were no help. They need the esn number off the phone, which I dont have yet. If this thread is out there already my appologies.
    Thanks,
    Townzy

Completely false. The Torch will work on the Telus HSPA network.

Telus - Runs on 1900/850 MHz frequency bands and uses standard 3GPP SIM cards.
Offers theoretical peak download speeds of 21.6 Mbps and 5.76 upload speeds.
Actual speed may vary by device and due to congestion, distance from the cell, local conditions, hardware, software and other factors, therefore typical speeds will range from 4-6 Mbps (download) and 2-4 Mbps (upload).

Runs on network infrastructure that has been purpose-built from the ground up.
Uses separate channels (parts of the wireless signal) for the data and voice components, so that capacity is reserved for data.

    Torch - Wireless NetworksTri-band 3G UMTS networks: 2100/1900/850/800 MHz
    Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks:
    850/900/1800/1900MHz

Thanks for the info Mikey. From what you are saying it will work but may have service issues due to some varying factors. Would you recommend just waiting until Telus releases the phone here?

I know one person who is using an unlocked 9800 on Telus HSPA with no problems. Having said that, I don't know enough about networks and the potential issues to say with confidence that you'd be ok. Sorry.
I'm going to be waiting for the Telus release.. As much as it's killing me every day that goes by!

I was just thinking about the same issue. Im from Toronto.
Thinking about gettin one unlocked. Im under Telus too. But Im also hearing that if you have a data plan that's umlimited, that its goin to be usless and that TELUS will make you change your plan? Also I've talked to some reps here for dates and I've got a three dates
AUG30th, Sept 13th and Sept 16th - Let's hope that one of those dates are True and not have us wait for "a couple of weeks" aka "a couple of months"

Unfortunately, that's true. Talk to the Telus reps, based on your usage they can help you pick a comparable plan..

I have an Unlocked torch on telus as well. The only problem you will have is the native browser will NOT work until Telus pushes the OS6 service books. Apparently people on BES can use it, but we cannot yet.
