If I buy I the Torch off contract /no term from AT&T but don't have an account - what happens if it breaks while under warranty? Is it still serviced?

I don't think AT&T will sell you one unless you have an account with them.

Also - the device warranty is with the manufacturer (RIM), not the Carrier.

The above poster is correct and ATT will not sell you a phone, period, if you do not have an account.

And it's not like you want to have to physically drive around to all of those stores. Yikes!

Exactly. I just called Cincinnati as well. The only place I'm planning on going to is Ogdensburg and they don't even know how much it costs without a contract. It's really starting to get annoying...

as long as you have an account with them..
    you'll be fine.
    it's called no commitment pricing.
or ask someone you know who has an AT&T..
they just need a phone number and physical address to tie with the phone.
    that's why

haha i shall.. i;m not doubting people are getting resistance.. the only reason i am going is cause i just happen to be going on a road trip to Cedar Point..

just thought i'd pick up a phone on the way.. i might even wait to get to a small town to pick it up since there would be less traffic at the store and people won't be suspicious of Us Canadians coming to grab a phone for ourselves..

yes i did just now... and i did call another store and got the same info as you did..

I really think that all us Canadians calling into the stores are getting them suspicious and changing their policy on the fly.. or looking up the RIGHT policy haha..

Stores here in NYC are all on that "only for new lines and upgrades" crap. Buying a phone outright is not good businesss for them. They sell phone and data plans and that's what they want. They want contracts.
