I'd think it would make sense to call it a Storm Slide (eg, Pearl Flip), but they may be trying to distance it from the poor reception of the S1
The Surepress is associated with the storm series - They can't call it a storm.
Also, I guess the storm 3 is already in the works.

imo branding is an important aspect. why else would they change the tour2 into the bold so late in the game? branding and marketing
Yes to a degree but would you not get one because of it's name?

isn't this already KINDA confirmed that it has changed to the TORCH and in production in mexico? I don't care what it's called, but it shouldn't be part of the bold family. i get my upgrade in july, and to think i was upset i would not have it for the first month (June). lol

Talladega was the original codename for the device. It was also known as Mr. T.

That link is one analyst's view of RIM, presumably based on netting out information on CrackBerry and a few other sites. It's probably fairly accurate but it's definitely not official.

I'm willing to bet that no matter what new name they come up with, people aren't going to be satisfied. I myself couldn't give a rat's azz, whatever it's called I'll be owning it.

...But I do agree with giving it a new name. It is certainly not a Bold. It's as much Storm as Bold. New form-factor, new name.

That said, I do hope "Torch" is not final. Not crazy about it. I dunno..."Baton" because it extends?
    [Sto]rm and B[old]....

    The Blackberry Stold 9800!

Whatever the name I will be picking it up as soon as it is out.

Exactly but Jobs comes up with iPhone 4 and creates a frenzy. Call it whatever RIM wants I will own it.

Maybe this had something to do with the new name
Research in Motion has just acquired Torch Mobile, makers of the Webkit based IRIS Browser. Aug 24 2009.

The 9800 never had the trademark battery door like the two other Bolds so it was probably never meant to be apart of the Bold line. Plus the first photos we saw of the 'slider' with the bold branding was probably just an early prototype that was pieced together.

The name of the device is the least of my concerns. My vote is Bold since the 9800 "evolved" from the 9700 using the same styling cues with the same QWERY keyboard and stainless steel border.
