I posted almost 2 months ago that my friend who knows a RIM executive got a couple minutes with a working Blackberry Slider. When I posted this I was challenged due to the fact that there were few details available online about the devise at the time and I'm not a Blackberry insider or anything. Assuming I wasn't making this up (everything I said about the devise came true in the video) it is not that unrealistic to be seeing these in June on At&t. Someone said that At&t hasn't tested them yet but they have been up and running for at least 2 months. I can't wait for it to drop!

I just wonder how much hot water the tester that "Lost" that bit of Fruit related hardware in a bar the other week is in??? LOL

I'm sure the claim is "I fell out of my pocket!" - and I have an uncle that got into a lot of trouble for selling TV's that "Fell off the back of a truck!"

As for this device, I'm eager for it to come out for one reason... My GF! Personally, I can't STAND touch screen devices. WHY? I can't use them. Not even the magical, super, marvelous iPhone! WHY? They only respond to my thumbs and one of my pinky fingers! (Try working a phone like that!) See, I burned the tips of my fingers VERY bad when I was younger and the scar tissue just does not work well. In the datacenter where our servers are hosted, when I go in to do maintenance, the finger print scanners will only read my thumbs.

So, I will always be stuck using a physical keyboard and Trackball/Trackpad. (The Trackpad works for me, as long as I use my thumbs!)

I'm due an upgrade right now, my GF just got her 9700 in January and is DYING for this device. So, I'll upgrade to it, give it to her, and take her 9700 to replace my 9000.

The more I read about the 9800 the more I like it. Just wondering how big would it be.

I currently have an iPhone 3G with AT&T and not yet upgrade eligible but am no longer under contract. I switched jobs and need to get a Blackberry to be able to synch Lotus Notes email.

Since I need to upgrade soon I was sad to read posts that the 9800 may be delayed. If I upgrade and for some reason the 9800 does come out within 30 days can I switch the Blackberry I purchase this week? I hate having to enter into a 2 year contract right before a new phone comes out (and having to give up my iPhone and Outlook/exchange.

Guess I'll just have to get a Bold 9700 this week?

The 9800 has not been delayed. This what happens when rumors start that it was going to be released in June. It never was.

If the 9800 is looking like it is getting released in October or later could RIM release OS 6 earlier for the 9650, Storm 1, and Storm 2? Would that be a reasonable possibility or highly unlikely?

Unlikely to work with these devices except the 9650. I'm sure the memory requirement will jump quite a bit. I would 100% rule out Storm 1 and 80% storm2.
Just like OS5 would not work with most devices.

Well I could not swear that the 9800 will be out in June but it IS out and being tested as a sailing buddy of mine in Jacksonville Florida who works for AT&T has been using one for over a month. It is not so much to test the slider hardware but more to test the new 6.0 OS.

According to BGR (who said it would be out on AT&T in June), it's supposedly coming to Sprint in Q4, i.e., sometime after October 1. But like the AT&T/June business from BGR, it's still rumor.

AT&T field testers aren't getting the phone until this week or next, so I'm not sure what your sailing buddy does -- what would be the point of just testing OSes? AT&T sells the phone, not the OS. Plus 6.0 was just announced barely a month ago -- how could have been using it for over a month?

I'm believing the Oct date that PG is speculating BUT folks its just that. ATT and RIM both have neither announced nor even acknowledged this device. Although we ALL know it exists remember its still can't be delayed because it was never even announced! Yes the coming of 6.0 was but they never said and it will be released on this cool new slider ATT is releasing in June. That never happened.

Yup -- the only official announcement from RIM is that 6.0 will be coming out in Q3. So that could be Sept. 30 . . . .

Exactly for all we know the ATT and Sprint verison could be released around the same time.

Remember how late ATT was with the Bold 9000....People were speculating for months that's its release was right around the corner as early as May '08 but it was what Oct Nov when ATT finally got it out the door.

Officially release was Nov. 04 for the Original BOLD. Some stores were selling them early over the weekend. I got mine on the 3rd. FYI, if you call the store you could get the same "there not in stock" as I did. Then, took a drive to the store and picked one up within the hour.

    On and on we go:

One of our trusted sources, PrincessPowerfull, has provided us with confirmation that AT&T will be launching the Bold 9800 Slider in June. The exclusivity deal that BlackBerry has inked with AT&T calls for a 3 month period of exclusivity. After that we can look forward to a possible CDMA release. Keep your browsers pointed to TheBerryFix.com for all the latest on the 9800 Slider and all your BlackBerry news needs.

According to the folks at TheBerryfix, ATT& has a 90 day exclusive - so Verizon COULD have it as early as Sept.
