So this is pretty interesting actually .. the 9800 torch has 624 mhz, 9700 has the same 624 mhz the bold 9000 has 624 mhz, I am guessing the 9780 will have the same. And all accept the 9000 can run OS 6.0.
having said that . If blackberry runs on 1/3 the data on half the processor speed that should say something about the ability of RIM as a whole compared the the competition IE: Iphone 4, Samsung Captivate etc .. running 1 Ghz processor and 512 ram
I am thinking here that if you go and get a 9700 and run OS 6 on it .. it should run pretty good, even though its 256 ram vs 512 of torch and 9780
seeing how the processor of all these devices are the same.
I would assume OS 6 would run well on the 9700 since RIM planned on releasing it for the device. The 9000 can't run OS 6 because it has too little memory.
I guess if your trying to decide on weather to spend the money since you have a 9700, or other 256 based hardware that is OS 6 compatible. How much difference will you see once they are side by side ..
9650 on 6.0 / 256
9700 on 6.0 624 / 256
9300 on 6.0 512 mhz 256
9800 or 9780 on 6.0 624 mhz / 512 ram
all these devices are relatively close so I guess the question is how much
difference will there be .. and reason to upgrade. and how much will the ram
play in the OS performance difference. 256 vs 512 seeing how processor is same
My guess (because that's all I can give at the moment without owning an OS 6 device) is that they will perform nearly the same until you get low on memory. I believe the 512mb is just there to give you comfortable room to download as many apps as your heart desires. With 256, you might be limited to how many you can download before you start seeing lag (around 15mb of memory left).
I think it's possible that 9700/9780 will actually run better. Given that they do not have to support the touch screen interface I would expect the OS will come in a smaller "package" and the processor will be able to handle the more limited activity with less "distraction". Again, a pure guess, but it seems kind of intuitive.
