BIS not connecting through wifi
Hello,
I just changed my network and am now with o2. Previously when on Vodafone, whenever I connected to wifi, my BIS would also connect via wifi, and the blackberry symbol would display. Since I moved to o2, my BIS won't connect via wifi.
I called o2 and they told me that BIS only connects through the mobile network, which I know is not the case, as with Vodafone it worked.
They then also said it may be a problem with my wifi not giving access, but I can browse normally through just wifi even with the mobile network switched off.
Anyone have any advice? Have tried resending service books, battery pull.
PS. I have a Blackberry Torch 9800, and the software is up to date - 08-01-2012, 06:08 PM #2
What about registering the network ala Host Routing Tables?

Tried that...didn't work.
Ran a wi-fi diagnostic - there's a red cross next to blackberry infrastructure. - 08-07-2012, 05:22 AM #4
Do you have an active BlackBerry Data Plan with the new carrier?

BIS not working through Wifi
I have the same problem at the moment. Internet browser working, app world working, but email and bbm not working. I live in an area where there is no mobile network signal, so I really on the server through wifi to keep in touch. I'm with O2, but my wife's phone is with T-Mobile and her's is fine. Only noticed the problem today.

Can't say about O2. I'm on T-Mobile in the states and my 9800 switches BIS back and forth without issue.
It might be that O2 does not support BIS over WiFi.
Have you tried other locations with different routers and different internet providers?--

I personally think it is an o2 issue, as a friend who is also on o2 is able to connect BIS over wifi.
Whether they've recently changed this for new customers I do not know, but they are adamant that BIS will not work over wifi. - 08-09-2012, 06:37 AM #9
in the US, T-mobile allowed BIS over wifi (the ability to make calls), but AT&T doesn't. Sounds like a carrier thing.

If O2 has stopped BBM & email through wifi then it is only recently, my wife and I have been using it for many months and then it stops working all of a sudden. If this is a permanent thing then I will not be renewing my contract with O2.
