BIS and e-mail account confusion
I have set myself up on BIS but do not know what my username and password are. Where and how do I find them?
On BB there appears to be an 'integrated' e-mail account which is different from one's other e-mail accounts. I have understood, correctly or not, this integrated account to be the one associated with Blackberry Messenger and the possibility of sending and receiving e-mail messages (and chats) that do not clock up against one's data allowance. Have I understood this correctly? This contrasts with other e-mail accounts that one might set up on the BB which do not use BBM. Is this right?
My understanding of the integrated e-mail account and if and how it is linked to BBM is critical because I set up 4 separate e-mail accounts on the BB Torch (to coincide with the 4 accounts in my Mac Mail account), and then discovered that I may have integrated or associated the wrong account with BBM. How do I know which of my e-mail accounts is associated with BBM? In order to try and undo this error, I deleted that e-mail account on the Torch. Will that have deleted it as the integrated e-mail account? And, if yes, will reinstating that e-mail account reinstate it as the integrated e-mail address?
I'm sorry for these very basic questions but my previous cellphone was only for receiving and making calls. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - 03-07-2011, 08:08 AM #2
I am curious how you set yourself up on BIS if you don't know your BIS account information? If you do not recall your BIS account information, simply call your service provider and have it reset. They can issue a temporary user name and password that you can change after logging in with the temporary information. As far as intergrated email accounts, BBM can work using either an email address associated with the device, or with the device PIN. Any email regardless of its association with BBM uses data, as does BBM itself. You can certainly delete the email accounts and later add them in whatever fashion you prefer. As far as which email account is associated with BBM, I'm not 100% certain that it matters because whichever it is still requires and uses data to send and receive BBM msgs. If another poster can help clarify or correct any misinformation I may have provided, please do.

This is part of the problem. When I changed my carrier to Vodafone Es (in Spain) and bought the new BB, I had to set up so many new accounts, passwords and usernames that I didn't know whether I was coming or going. Now I am confused as to what is what.

That's helpful. I will try this tomorrow and see what happens. If you do not recall your BIS account information, simply call your service provider and have it reset. They can issue a temporary user name and password that you can change after logging in with the temporary information.
Thank you. Yes, I do see that any e-mail received or sent constitutes data, but I thought that e-mail sent and received through the e-mail account associated with the PIN was somehow treated differently, and or travelled through different servers that are BB's, rather than one's carrier's servers. As far as intergrated email accounts, BBM can work using either an email address associated with the device, or with the device PIN. Any email regardless of its association with BBM uses data, as does BBM itself.
Perhaps I didn't express myself clearly enough before. The e-mail account (and address) I meant to refer to is the one associated with the device PIN. My understanding is that one can associate up to 10 e-mail accounts and addresses with the device, but only 1 with the PIN.
Under Setup/Personal information/Edit Contact/ 3 e-mail addresses are shown against my name. The PIN is also shown. Which of the 3 e-mail addresses is associated with the PIN?
I have had no problem in deleting the email account I believed to be wrongly associated with the PIN. Unfortunately I still do not understand how one knows which, if any, e-mail account/address is associated with the PIN, and which not.You can certainly delete the email accounts and later add them in whatever fashion you prefer. All of the email addresses are associated with the device PIN.

None of the email addresses are "given precedence". You, however, as the user can, set the "Default Email" on the device. This doesn't have anything to do with BBM or the servers, though.
