My 9800 went into a reboot cycle right after the bb id update. I removed the battery and noticed that there was a small 1/2" square that was bulging and was soft to the touch. My other 9800 doesn't have it. Any ideas?

Nope, but it can't be good.

The bolded sentence threw me. Is it the battery or the phone with the bulge.
If it is the battery I agree with saudadeii that that can't be good. If it is the phone I'd
have that checked out if still under warranty.

Thanks for the advice. Phone is in for repair. This is the reason why I purchased the extended warranty. But I have never had to use any before this. But 15$ times 4 phones is still way cheaper then paying for a new phone in the middle of the contract.

I will post when it comes back as to the actual issue.

    Cheers.

Subscribed because I am really curious as to what could cause that.

The square is the Liquid Damage Detector. If it changes in any way it probably means you have damage and need immediate repairs.

The Water Damage Indicator (WDI) would only change color from white to
either pink or red. It would not bulge or become soft and mushy.

The phone is back. They replaced the main board. It overheated and was starting to fail. Working awesome again.
