It's definitely a software issue. If you try playing music through the speakerphone or earpiece, it's pretty loud so the speakers are capable of producing.

I think it miiight have to do with how the other person on the line is using their phone too... I noticed when I call customer support people who use dedicated landlines and probably headsets, that they are usually waaaay too loud... And when I call some of my friends, they are sometimes multitasking and don't use their phones the proper way and they are harder to hear because of volume...

MY finace and i both just got Torches. My volume is fine but she has been complaining that she cant hear anything on hers. Hopefully there is a fix for this.
The volume is perfectly fine on my torch. I think the low volume some are complaining about is all in perception.
No problems with mine. Running .246 and even in the car, which can get a bit load, I can hear fine even without having the volume up all the way. Land line calls or cell phone calls seems to make no difference. It all comes in clear.
It could be the build of the phone. Mine's a refurb, originally made in Mexico.

Not perception in my case as I bought 2 at the same time and only one has this issue.
I've noticed something recently with my torch and (lack of) volume. Can anyone else verify this?
When I dial a number, then put the torch up to my ear (proximity sensor turns off the display), it rings, and the volume is OK. If for any reason I move the phone so the proximity sensor turns the display back on (like if I need to "press 1 for English"), when I put the phone back to my ear, the volume is approximately HALF what it previously was. If, at that point, I enable the speakerphone via the screen, then quickly disable the speakerphone, and put the phone back up to my ear, the call is back "loud" again. But if I have to remove the phone from my ear again (more menu options, or if the sensor just turns the screen on for whatever reason), it goes back quiet again. The only way I've found to return it to "loud" is to toggle the speakerphone twice.
VERY VERY annoying.
Just adding my name to the list....Need Volume on my Torch
Tried latest update?
Yeah, it's not a perception issue. I switch back and forth between a Bold 9000 and the Torch and there's a huge difference. Normal calling on the Torch is too low and speakerphone is really bad. The normal call volume on the Bold is as loud as the Torch on speaker.
I used to have this problem where the volume would decrease, then read somewhere it might be related to the Batterybooster app. Removed the app and problem solved!
I don't know how they are related, but since I removed Batterybooster, all my volume issues have disappeared!

I noticed that too on my torch. i just bought it few weeks ago and it was doing same thing. But i fixed mine, at least the volume is better.
I installed the .141 release and that fixed the problem for me. Looks like the new ver. is causing this. Probably a bug or something, who knows.
Just adding my voice to the 'low volume' crowd.
New Torch with .245 software on Bell.
Hopefully, this is the correct forum for this solution. I was recently experiencing extreme volume degradation through my Motorola bluetooth device paired to my BB Torch.
Just a side note... I purchased the Torch and the bluetooth on the same day, back around November/December 2010.
When I originally set everything up to my liking on the phone and paired the bluetooth to it, everything was wonderful. But, then over time I noticed that the call volume would reduce to 50% despite the volume being turned up to 100%. The interesting thing is when making an outgoing call, the first ring would be at a much higher volume....then from the second ring on, the volume was reduced at 50%.
I made sure all the settings were set for maximum volume. I also used all the tips (except one...I'll explain later) people suggested, like deleting all apps and rebooting phone (yanking battery or normal reboot). Nothing worked. The only thing left to try was rolling the phone back to a previous version of the OS, because a lot of people stated that this worked for them.
Before I did this (because I really did not want to do this), I tried one more thing. I went back to that AT&T store and asked the rep about the issue. He stated that both he and his brother (who owns the same phone) have the exact same issue. And the AT&T and/or BB was not looking to fix this issue anytime soon.
At that time, I decided to make good with my warranty and exchange my bluetooth device. It was an expensive model and I really liked it. I wanted to make sure it wasn't the bluetooth...before taking the plunge into rebuilding/rolling back my phone's OS version. The rep didn't think it would make a difference, but kindly honored the warranty. I unpaired the old bluetooth and paired the new one. And guess what....IT WORKED!!!
So, this may be only a theory, but here it is... This came to mind when troubleshooting. Majority of people expressed rolling back their OS on the phone to the original factory version they had. I believe the true issue is upgrading the OS AFTER THE BLUETOOTH IS PAIRED TO THE PHONE. The way to avoid the volume issue may be to totally unpair the bluetooth before any upgrades (OS or applications...facebook, etc.). Once upgrade completed, pair the bluetooth back to the phone.
Again....just my two cents. Maybe it will help someone. Or maybe I've just added yet another solution for some people to try. Regardless, I wish everyone the best of luck. :D
Handset volume on my Torch is pathetic... add my name to those crying HELP fix the volume!
I at first thought the volume was really low with my Torch, but then I came up with the simplest solution... At first I was holding the phone up to my ear rather gingerly, just something I automatically did because it felt weird to have this nice big touch screen pressing on my ear (and also at first I didn't know the proximity sensor turned the screen off so you couldn't accidentally hang up or do something else undesirable). But now I find that if I push it against my ear just a little harder (like I would with any other phone), it actually seems considerably louder, and definitely loud enough, at least for me.
I know it sounds stupid and I'm sure most people hold the phone like they should, but if you've only ever held it up to your ear, barely touching, then try pushing just a little harder and see if it makes a difference for you.
P.S. Also it seems louder since the upgrade to .448, but it's even louder if you push a little harder :)
Hopefully another new OS will solve the problem. HELLO RIM?????
Add me to this, tried the 100% thing and not much better.
Is it possible that the speaker hole could be clogged with debris? Mine looks like it could use a cleaning!
